Passenger count up

in May at RSW

During May, 602,891 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport, an increase of 2 percent compared to May 2014. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is up 4.8 percent from the same period last year.

The traffic leader in May was Delta with 156,411 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were Southwest (143,100), US Airways (64,543), JetBlue (62,863) and United (49,951).

Southwest Florida International Airport had 6,113 aircraft movements (takeoffs and landings), an increase of 5.2 percent compared to May 2014. In addition, 2.7 million pounds of air freight moved through Southwest Florida International Airport in May 2015, a decrease of 3 percent compared to May 2014.

Southwest Florida International Airport served more than 7.9 million passengers in 2014 and is one of the top 50 U.S. airports for passenger traffic. No ad valorem (property) taxes are used for airport operation or construction.

hires McDonald

Suncoast Credit Union has announced that Mary W. McDonald has joined the organization as the community relations director. In this new role, McDonald is responsible for developing relationships with community-based organizations; overseeing and evaluating sponsorship opportunities and fund-raising events; developing strategies to build awareness for internal and external initiatives that improve the lives of members; and leading Suncoast’s volunteer efforts within communities in the 17 counties the credit union serves.

Born in Frankfurt, Germany, McDonald grew up in Winston-Salem, N.C., and moved to Florida in 1988. She is a Guardian Ad Litem volunteer.

Talamo elected to American

Business Women’s Association board

Kelly Talamo, CSA, marketing director and staff accountant with Myers, Brettholtz & Company, PA, Certified Public Accountants & Business Consultants was recently elected as treasurer of the board of directors for the American Business Women’s Association Palms of Edisonia Chapter. Her one-year term will begin July 1.

Talamo joined the firm in 1996. Her experience includes working as an auditor with nonprofit organizations, and homeowner, condominium and timeshare associations since 1998. She has been approved by the state of Florida to teach continuing education courses to licensed community association managers and has taught several courses on association accounting issues, reserves and budgeting.

Storm Smart names Peacock

Fort Myers’ based Storm Smart has announced that Cole Peacock has joined the company as chief operating officer.

Prior to joining Storm Smart, Cole was instrumental in the restructuring, project management and consultative services for business and not for profits, such as Blackstone Financials acquisitions of Exeter Finance and locally, Hope Healthcare and Early Learning Coalition. Additionally, he served as vice president/director of corporate and governmental relations at Chicos FAS Inc. as well as a founding member of Chicos Charities Inc.

Cole has two decades of experience in corporate branding and governmental relations and not for profits including charitable giving, community development, investor relations, crisis management and social responsibility.

He will be responsible for the overall operations and development along with management of team members, recruiting and improvement of the systems that create and deliver Storm Smart’s outstanding products and services.

Entech acquires United Systems

Jake Spanberger, president of Entech Computer Services, a 17-year-old Fort Myers-based IT consulting and solutions company, has announced the acquisition of Bradenton-based United Systems Computer Group. In addition to remotely serving clients nationwide, Entech’s immediate onsite service area will now extend from the Tampa Bay area south to Marco Island.

United Systems’ 13-member team will merge with Entech’s 16 experienced engineers, administrators, advisors and strategists, representing a synergy of talent, infrastructure and services that is expected to benefit existing and new customers of both companies. United Systems CEO David Spire will maintain an ownership interest in Entech and help drive future growth as chief development officer and senior executive vice president.

Entech was founded in 1998 by Martin Haas. Spanberger partnered with Haas in 2001 and, along with Chief Operating Officer Buddy Martin, and multiple dedicated employees, has been fundamental in the company’s growth. Spanberger took the reins upon Haas’ retirement two years ago.

Bennett’s expands lunch hours

Beginning Monday, June 22, Bennett’s Fresh Roast expanded its lunch hours to 3 p.m.

Both the Fort Myers and Sanibel locations are now serving lunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. seven days per week. Breakfast will remain from 6 to 11 a.m.
