Lee County Community Development

issues 3,669 permits in May

During May, contractors pulled 90 permits to build single-family houses collectively valued at more than $19.6 million in unincorporated Lee County. That compares to 136 permits issued in April and 88 issued in May 2014, according to the Lee County Department of Community Development.

Also during May, 51 multi-family units collectively valued at nearly $8.6 million were permitted, compared to eight in April and 173 in May 2014. May’s multi-family permitting included 27 units in the Bent Palms development on Bent Palms Cove and 20 units in the Tortuga development on Periwinkle Preserve Lane, both in the in the Iona-McGregor area. The remainder of the multi-family units was duplexes.

General commercial activity was valued at nearly $15.3 million for 10 permits, compared to nearly $1.8 million in April and more than $14.9 million in May 2014.

Lee County Community Development issued 3,699 permits of all kinds during May.

Southeast Building Conference

July 16-18 in Orlando

The Southeast Building Conference, hosted by the Florida Home Builders Association, will celebrate 37 years in the industry on July 16-18, by providing licensed contractors with a new show. This premier trade event, which encompasses a 12-state Southeast region and will be held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, has undergone a transformation that represents the revitalization of the building industry.

During SEBC, attendees will receive three days of educational programs benefiting their Continuing Education Units requirements, including special guests from Microsoft and HOUZZ. Featured speakers also include Bob Whitten of SMA Consulting, where participants will learn the secrets of communication systems commonly used by the most successful homebuilders, and Ed Binkley, who will dive into unique ways to “right size” homes without sacrificing quality. With the 5th edition of the Florida Building Code going into effect June 30, SEBC attendees will also have an opportunity to understand new requirements, including blower-door testing and mechanical ventilation for new construction.

Under new management, the 2015 SEBC will be a Rockin’ New Show, featuring everything from coffee and donuts with celebrity guests from HGTV and DIY Network to a Classic Rock and Roll Dance Video Party. The event also features the largest building industry Expo Show, showcasing an impressive array of innovative products from construction, marketing, and equipment suppliers.

Established in 1977, the SEBC is the largest regional building industry trade show in the Southeast providing the latest in residential and commercial construction products and services. The Southeast region covers: Arkansas, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

Colonial Commons offers

pre-lease construction special

Colonial Commons is offering a pre-lease construction discount. Anyone who signs a lease at Fort Myers’ newest luxury apartment community before by July 4, 2015, will receive a $300 credit toward his or her first month’s rent.

Situated at the corner of Winkler and Colonial Boulevard, the community offers modern, Mediterranean influenced architecture with active, resort-style amenities in an unparalleled location.
