Cape businesses raise funds to help injured jogger

2 min read

Dozens of Cape Coral business professionals brought the community together last week to raise nearly $15,000 for a Cape man who was critically injured when he was hit by a truck while jogging.

More than 200 people attended the “Cape Love” fundraiser for James Rosso May 12 at the Big John Cape Coral Town Center. They enjoyed donated food and beverages and vied for more than more than $10,000 in gifts and raffle prizes contributed by local businesses.

Rosso, a 20-year-old college student, was critically injured April 8 after being hit by a truck while jogging with two friends on Diplomat Parkway. He is now in rehabilitation therapy and may be able to move back home in a couple of weeks. His parents estimate his medical bills will exceed $500,000.

“We had absolutely amazing support from local businesses, the Cape Coral Chamber and people throughout this community,” said Paul Beattie, president of Beattie Development and one of the event organizers

Caring individuals are continuing to build a medical care fund for Rosso. Anyone wanting to help can donate online at www.gofundme.com/JamesTheJogger.

The “Cape Love” fundraiser was organized by Beattie Development and its subcontractors, the Cape Coral Chamber of Commerce, the Cape Coral Construction Industry Association and the Cape Coral Town Center, home to the city’s infamous Big John statue.
