Grayson Rogers band

to perform at Six Bends

On Sunday, Jan. 25, local favorite, Grayson Rogers will take the stage from 1-4 p.m., at Six Bends in Fort Myers. This special performance is part of the site’s recurring live music series, “Sundays at the Pit.”

Voted as Spot Magazines’ 2013 Band of the Year, Grayson Rogers has grown into one of Florida’s premier up-and-coming bands. Their performances bring a blend of dynamic original music, along with some of today’s chart-topping country music.

The event is free and open to the public. Food and beverage will be available for sale on site during the event. deadline for Chrysalis Awards

There is still time to nominate a business or an individual for a prestigious Chrysalis Award.

The deadline for nominations for the sixth annual Chrysalis Awards to honor those who have positively impacted the local community has been extended until today, Jan. 23.

Award nominations are open to any member of the local business community. Award recipients will be announced at the Celebration of Business & Tourism Awards Luncheon and Trade Show April 16 at Harborside Event Center in downtown Fort Myers.

The event, co-produced by the VCB and the chamber and held to commemorate National Travel and Tourism Week, celebrates the value of tourism and the community teamwork critical for sustaining tourism as a major economic engine for the county.

Ruebeling named president of

Florida Pest Management Association

Keith Ruebeling, owner of Fort Myers pest control company, Larue Pest Management, has been appointed to serve as the 68th president of the Florida Pest Manage-ment Association. Ruebeling’s term follows that of 2014 President Billy Riley and was set to officially begin when he was formally sworn in Jan. 22 during the Pest and Lawn Care Expo in Orlando. A second-generation pest control operator, he joined the family business in 1992 and holds a Florida certified operators license in the categories of pest control, termite control, lawn care and fumigation.

Founded in 1945, the Florida Pest Management Association is a non-profit, statewide trade association, based in Orlando, with 1,000 members. It promotes business ethics standards and communicates how the pest control industry is dedicated to protecting health, food, property, and the environment.

SalusCare to present

‘Youth Mental Health First Aid’

Do you know the danger signs of mental illness or substance abuse? If your child suddenly experiences depression or withdrawal from enjoyable activities, would you know what to do?

Now there’s a nationally recognized day-long program to help parents, friends and neighbors identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance abuse before a crisis occurs.

Called “Youth Mental Health First Aid,” the program is offered by SalusCare Inc., the largest, most comprehensive mental health and substance abuse treatment program in Southwest Florida.

Approximately 10 percent of children in the United States will suffer from a mental illness this year, making mental disorders more common than heart disease and cancer combined as the leading causes of death, according to SalusCare.

The eight-hour class will be offered Wednesday, Feb. 18, at SalusCare’s Evans Avenue Campus at 3763 Evans Ave., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The class costs $25, including all training materials.

English appointed

to advisory committee

December traffic

count at RSW released

During December, 765,288 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport, an increase of 4 percent compared to December 2013. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is up 4.4 percent from the same period last year.

“Following 13 consecutive months of increased passenger traffic, December 2014 was the best December in Southwest Florida International Airport’s 31-year history and our performance for the year was the best since 2007,” said Robert M. Ball, A.A.E., executive director of the Lee County Port Authority.

The traffic leader in December was Delta with 165,177 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were Southwest (136,729), JetBlue (87,373), Spirit (78,692) and US Airways (74,980).

Southwest Florida International Airport had 7,611 aircraft movements (takeoffs and landings), a decrease of 2.2 percent compared to December 2013. Page Field saw 8,255 movements, a 17.7 percent increase from December 2013. In addition, more than 3.8 million pounds of air freight moved through Southwest Florida Inter-national Airport in December 2014, an increase of 8.7 percent compared to December 2013.

Antique and Classic Boat Show

at The Marina at Edison Ford

The Marina at Edison Ford is hosting its inaugural Antique and Classic Boat Show Saturday, Jan. 31, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. More than 50 boats will be on display, including classic wooden and fiberglass boats.

The free event, endorsed by the Antique and Classic Boat Society, will showcase the true craftsmanship of classic boats and allow visitors to see the boats up close and talk to the owners.

The Marina at Edison Ford will have antique and classic boats on display in the parking lot with the Edison and Ford Winter Estates hosting trailered vessels right on the Coconut Grove Lawn.

The event will also feature live music both days.
