Panera Bread makes donation to Harry Chapin Food Bank
On Wednesday, April 21, Panera Bread presented a check for $50,000 to the Harry Chapin Food Bank, at Panera Bread Caf, 1830 Pine Island Road, Cape Coral.
This money, from the company’s “Bread Box” Dough-Nation program, will provide sponsorships for the upcoming Harry Chapin Food Bank events in 2010 and 2011. The money will allow the food bank to distribute over $300,000 in food value to the needy in our community.
Scheduled to be on hand for the presentation were representatives from the Harry Chapin Food Bank along with Jay Disser, district Panera Bread; Dean Tomitz, joint venture partner of Panera Bread; and Chasity Thompson, general manager of the Cape Coral Panera Bread Caf.
Panera Bread Bakery Cafes believes in giving back to local communities. It show its appreciation for customers not only within the bakery cafs but also throughout the communities it serves by sponsoring special events and participating in charitable events such as the WINK-News Feeds Families Hunger Walk, the Collier Empty Bowls Event, the Lee County Empty Bowls Event, and the Vivante Tennis Tournament.
The Harry Chapin Food Bank solicits, collects and stores quality food for distribution to needy people through a network of more than 170 local nonprofit, who provide food to more than 20,000 people monthly.
A total of 675,000 pounds of food are distributed monthly. For every dollar donated, $6 in food value goes back to the community. In the past fiscal year, The Harry Chapin Food Bank distributed more than eight million pounds of food and other grocery products.
