Local hair dressers provide free cuts
Last week, more than two dozen deserving Pine Islander’s received free hairstyles thanks to the generosity of local hair dressers. Hosted by April’s Island Salon, those in need of a new look but who simply cannot afford the luxury of a professional hairstyles were offered the opportunity to boost their appearance for free.
“I would like to personally thank Sister Diane for putting this together with the folks from Red Salon of Cape Coral. The hairstylests donated their time for our free hair cut night. They partnered up with my team of hair dressers,” said April Collins. “The team of people from Red’s Salon were Doug Rarden, Lynette Vandermark and Nick Arames. We were able to give out 30 free hair cuts to our community and we loved every minute of it.”
The hairstylest from April’s who also participated was Danielle Galloway-Snell, who works at April’s every Monday and Thursday. April’s other hairstylest, Lynne Beaudry, was not able to participate directly as she was busy dishing up the weekly Saturday evening free meal at her church but participated by encouraging those who came for a meal to go to April’s Island Salon for a free haircut as well.
“Everyone who came for a haircut expressed how thankful they were and that meant so much to us,” said Collins. “I enjoyed it and we hope to do it again in the future.”
Collins also hopes that even more people will take up the offer for free haircuts at future events.
“It was obvious there was a need for this offer because for a first time it was a tremendous success,” Collins said. “I just supplied the place and everyone else donated their talent. I am very thankful that they were willing to do that for our community. I thank everyone involved from the bottom of my heart.”
April’s Island Salon is located just east of the island center on Pine Island, next to the Beacon Thrift Store. For more information, call Collins at 645-5511.
