Verizon Wireless activates two digital cell sites

2 min read

Verizon Wireless, reportedly the nation’s largest wireless network, has activated two new advanced digital cell sites to enhance services in Lee and Collier counties.

One site near Ave Maria University will improve services in Cape Coral and Naples. The other site targets more specifically the residential neighborhoods along Southwest 20th Avenue, Chiquita Boulevard, Surfside Boulevard and 32nd Street in Cape Coral.

Both sites utilize the advanced 3G high-speed wireless network (EV-DO Rev. A), which allow customers to enjoy clearer call reception and faster speeds when sending text or multimedia messages. This network also complements the latest wireless services, such as V CAST – which allows customers to stream video clips, play 3D games and download full song tracks over the air; and VZ Navigator – a location-based service offering maps, audible driving directions, traffic updates, gas station locations and pricing; and the newest, most reliable Push To Talk technology.

In addition, customers using the company’s BroadbandAccess data service to wirelessly access their e-mail and calendars, the Internet and other information, can expect average download speeds of 600 kilobits per second (kbps) to 1.4 megabits per second and average upload speeds of 500-800 kbps.

The new sites are part of the company’s continuing investment to expand coverage, increase capacity and enhance quality of its voice and data network throughout the country. Verizon Wireless has invested nearly $2 billion in its Florida network since the company was formed.
