Radio station to host 9th Annual Kids with Cancer radiothon
On Friday, Oct. 16, Cat Country 107.1 will broadcast live from Miromar Outlets from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. to beam stories of hope and caring to sympathetic listeners who call in pledges that literally help save lives. Pledges will benefit Barbara’s Friends and The Children’s Hospital of South West Florida, part of the Lee Memorial Health System.
Listeners donating to this worthwhile cause will have the opportunity to become a “Guard-ian Angel,” a monthly $25 donation for one year. Each hour, Cat Country will conduct a random drawing from all “Guardian Angels” from that hour, and one lucky listener will win an hourly incentive prize.

Walmart Foundation teams up with WGCU to benefit food bank
Listeners to WGCU, 90.1, who participate in the Fall FM Radio Pledge Campaign, Oct. 16-23, will also be contributing to the Harry Chapin Food Bank. For every pledge made, The Walmart Foundation will donate $5 to the food bank.
The Harry Chapin Food Bank solicits, collects and stores quality food for distribution to needy people through a network of more than 160 local nonprofit agencies, who provide food to more than 20,000 people monthly. 500,000 pounds of food are distributed monthly. For every dollar donated, $6 in food value goes back to the community. In the past fiscal year, The Harry Chapin Food Bank distributed more than 6 million pounds of food and other grocery products.

Robb & Stucky employees create charity cookbook
It is said that the kitchen is the heart of the home – so what better way for the one of the country’s largest home furnishings and interior design firms to raise funds for cancer research than a cookbook filled with savory and sweet dishes. Robb & Stucky employees from across the country have compiled their favorite recipes for a corporate-wide fund-raiser benefiting the American Cancer Society.
The 300-page book is filled with family favorites, scrumptious finds, and even original recipes from the chefs of the Robb & Stucky KitchenAid Culinary Center. The bulk of the first-edition compilation will be in stores on Nov. 1. A special edition of pink-bound books, printed in a limited quantity, will be on sale the week of Oct. 19.
The Robb & Stucky Cookbook will retail for $14.99 in Robb & Stucky showrooms nationwide. All proceeds from the sale of the cookbook will go to the ACS.

During the month of October, visitors to The Sandy Butler are invited to enter the Guess the Pumpkin Weight Contest. The public is invited to visit the gourmet market where the large pumpkin will be on display. Visitors may complete an entry form and guess the weight of the pumpkin. The person with the guess closest to the correct weight will win the pumpkin and a gift certificate for The Sandy Butler restaurant or market.
Contest rules: Only one entry per person per day; in the event there are multiple entries with the correct weight, the winner will be selected randomly from those with the correct weight; entries must be received between Oct. 19- 31; no purchase necessary to win; the winner does not have to be present to win.
