Lee BIA VIPs provide home renovations for local man
The board of directors from Builders Care, the nonprofit arm of the Lee Building Industry Association, along with the BIA Board of Directors recently teamed up to help out a local man in need. The volunteers put a new coat of paint on the home of Steve Lewis, a 58-year-old Fort Myers native.
A motorcycle accident more than 30 years ago left Lewis paralyzed from the waist down. Lewis uses a wheelchair, and his home has undergone several renovations to improve mobility. However, areas of the home still needed work.
Volunteers from both boards, including Builders Care board president Bob Bassett of Colonial Bank and BIA board president Mark Stevens of Stevens Construc-tion Inc., along with volunteers from Bishop Verot High School, put on a new coat of paint and installed new screens on the home. The project also included the rebuild of a storage area, pressure washing and stucco repair.
Local sub-contractors and BIA members donated all of the materials and construction services for the project. Com-panies contributing to the project include Aqua Systems, Bradford Plastering Inc., Crea-tive Landscape & Designs, D.E. Construction, Eagle Ready Mix, Harbor Springs Construction and Develop-ment, Jamestown Painting, Nilles Design Group, Pro Build, Scott Paint Company, Sherwin Williams, The Home Depot and TPI Aluminum Specialties. Services are valued at more than $3,000.
Builders Care is headquartered at the Lee BIA offices at 4210 Metro Parkway, Suite 100, Fort Myers.
