The program will assist the MDA in sending children to a one-week, summer camp program from July 26-31 at Brandon’s Rotary Camp of Florida.

MDA’s camping program has grown from a pilot project in 1955 serving 16 campers to about 90 camp sessions serving thousands of campers throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.

The camp is designed to provide activities geared to the special abilities of the campers who have mobility needs as a result of neuromuscular disease and whose behavior patterns fit into a group setting. Activities include fishing, swimming, wheelchair soccer, arts and crafts, archery, golf, bon fires, a dance and other events.

The camping experience is designed to enhance a camper’s self-image and encourage the development of independent leisure time activities following the camp program.
