Organizations create foreclosure task force
Community organizations and the Lee County Bar Association are proud to announce the formation of the Lee County Foreclosure Task Force. With a mission to help homeowners remain in their homes by educating them about their options, the Task Force will work with participants to reduce foreclosures, advocate for fair and equitable treatment of citizens, aggregate resources for the good of the community and its citizens.
A secondary and equally important goal of the Task Force is to help hold accountable the various institutions filing foreclosures, along with the judicial system, to a proper legal process with regards to the filing and disposition of foreclosure cases so citizens’ rights and the applicable laws are upheld in foreclosure cases.
Made up of attorneys, area employers, non-profit organizations, state organizations and other community leaders, the Task Force is kicking off with monthly educational workshops for the general public Saturday, February 14th at 9:00 a.m. The workshop will be held at the Airport Training Center (the old airport).
Community partners include the Department of Financial Service, Representative Aubuchon’s office, Herocare, the Lee County Bar Association, the Dellutri Law Group, United Way, Lee Memorial Heath Systems, Lee County School Board, Local 1826 Firefighters, Southwest Florida Community Foundation and Florida Rural Legal Services.
The Task Force will host three monthly workshops moving forward: one in Spanish on the first Friday of each month; one on the second Saturday of each month and another on the third Thursday of each month. The Saturday and Thursday presentations will alternate between Cape Coral and the Fort Myers locations.
All workshops will have attorneys in attendance to help answer questions.
