The North Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce held a Grand Re-opening on Jan. 29, complete with a ribbon-cutting.

Nearly 100 business leaders and guests came to the ceremony and enjoyed networking at the Chamber offices.

“It was very successful event,” said Chamber Executive Director Dina Porter. “We’re looking forward to a great year.”

Tonight, there’s another big event for the chamber – the Honorary Mayor Gala. For the last three years, the chamber has held this fund-raising event to benefit a scholarship fund.

The candidates are:

– Jarrod Cantrell, Lee County Sheriff’s deputy

– Richard Dunmire, celebrating his 50th year as a teacher

– Ronnie Morgan, band master

– Cindy Newmaster, general manager for BJ’s Wholesale Club

– Jim Wells, owner – Vertical Point Technologies

One dollar-per-vote will be tallied, and the one who raises the most will be named mayor at the event.

Themed a “Caribbean Gala,” the emcee will be Tracey Edwards, host of Fox 4 Morning Blend, who will be joined by current Honorary Mayor Tom Cronin Sr., Fort Myers Mayor Jim Humphrey and Sheriff Mike Scott.

Porter said it will be a great event, and encourages anyone to call for tickets, which are $35 per person. The number is 997-9111.

The new chamber offices are located at 2787 N. Tamiami Trail Unit 10. It welcomes business owners, representatives and the general public to visit the offices.
