Dr. Nina Burt joins Elmquist Eye Group

Dr. Trevor Elmquist, founder of Elmquist Eye Group, is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Nina Burt. Burt will join Elmquist and partner Dr. Kate Wagner to treat patients from the practice’s Fort Myers office. The team will also offer a full range of services from a new Cape Coral branch office, which will open later this month.

Burt served as a full-time optometrist for a local private practice for the past three years. She holds a doctorate in optometry from Nova Southeastern University and a bachelor’s degree in biology from Union University. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, Florida Optometric Association and Young Professionals of Florida. A native of South Africa and former resident of Brazil, Burt is fluent in Portuguese and proficient in Spanish.

Cape Bar Association names new officers

The Cape Coral Bar Association recently elected the following members to its Board of Directors: president, Steven K. Teuber of Sasso & Teuber, P.L.; vice president, Thomas Shipp of Thomas E. Shipp Jr. & Associates, PA; treasurer, Lisa A. Musial of Musial & Musial Co., LPA.; and secretary, Eviana J. Martin of the Martin Law Firm, P.L.

The mission of the Cape Coral Bar Association is to promote the highest professional and ethical standards in the legal community and to provide educational resources in support of that goal.

According to Teuber, this year’s focus of the association will be to increase civic awareness of the role of the judicial system in our society and the

judicial process. The association is working to provide attorneys to each Cape Coral high school to mentor during the moot court competitions as well as provide seminars and classes to the community regarding the judicial process.

Stevens Construction finish resort project

Stevens Construction Inc. has completed construction of the children’s pool complex project at South Seas Island Resort, announced Mark Stevens, company president.

Started in summer of 2008, the complex includes two waterslides, a pool equipment room, a slide tower and a trolley stop. The pool area features a 120-foot cyclone-curved waterslide, a 50-foot vertical slide, brick pavers, landscaping, benches and custom lighting.

The Stevens Construction team included superintendent J.P. Pencil, project manager Terry Tjelmeland and project administrator Lizette Martin. Ron Weaver and Zach Smith of BSSW Architects Inc. designed the complex.

Ulzheimer to serve on Boy Scouts board

Colonial Bank vice president and commercial real estate lender Donald C. Ulzheimer has been selected to serve on the 2009 executive board of directors for the Boy Scouts of America, Southwest Florida Council.

In this role, Ulzheimer will focus on the organization’s “learning for life” program, designed to prepare youth for the complexities of contemporary society and enhance self confidence, motivation and self esteem.

Ulzheimer is a former Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Explorer and previously served with the New Jersey National Guard Youth Challenge program.

Ulzheimer has worked in the banking industry for nearly 40 years. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from West Virginia University and is a graduate of the American Bankers Association’s undergraduate and graduate commercial lending school. He is a certified financial planner, and holds a Florida real estate sales associate license.

Gora/McGahey leads volunteer efforts in Harlem Heights

Gora/McGahey Associates in Architecture joined hundreds of Ben & Jerry’s corporate employees and franchises in a volunteer effort to refurbish Harlem Heights Community Park in South Fort Myers on Jan. 16. The community service project was part of Ben Jerry’s annual meeting, which was held locally.

Gora/McGahey team members Dan McGahey, Becky Gibbard, Cristina Meyer, Pat McGuire, Felix Medina, George Krumenaker, Maria Marrufo and Ken Buschle supervised landscaping and painting in the park and various residences around the community with elderly and disabled residents needing help to maintain and beautify their properties. Gora/McGahey worked hand-in-hand with Ben & Jerry’s volunteers to complete the work.
