Ball appointed to committee
Robert M. Ball, A.A.E., executive director of the Lee County Port Authority, was recently appointed by the Florida Department of Transportation to represent the Florida Airports Council on the Florida Strategic Intermodal System Leadership Committee.
Ball joined the Lee County Port Authority in 1993 as deputy executive director and became executive director in 1996.
During his administration, Ball has directed the planning, funding, construction and move to the new $438 million terminal at Southwest Florida International Airport and led the renaissance of Page Field General Aviation Airport.
The SIS was created by the governor and legislature in 2003 to enhance Florida’s economic competitiveness by focusing on high-priority transportation facilities, including commercial airports, seaports, passenger and freight rail terminals, waterways and highways.

Local man invents gorditas press
The invention of the Gorditas Y Huaraches Tortilla Press is a manually operated appliance that is specially designed for pressing flat bread gordita tortillas.
The design intent is to provide consumers with a faster and easier method of preparing these shells. The Gorditas Y Huaraches Tortilla Press is a modified apparatus that will prepare the product in a safe and expedient manner.
It is a portable press and primarily consists of heavy duty stainless steel or cast iron materials and features a durable plastic casing.
It is generally oval in shape and measures approximately six and three quarters long by one inch in depth. Two movable plates, the interior of which are molded to create the gordita shell, are hinge connected and controlled by the handle mechanism which, when raised or lowered, pulls the plate apart or forces them together.
The Gorditas Y Huaraches Tortilla Press was invented by Humberto Camacho of Fort Myers.
Grossman named president of Lee County Bar Assoc.

Rice board certified
