ABWA Women in Business Expo set for Thursday
An inaugural Women in Business Expo is coming to the Cape Coral Library on Thursday, May 22.
The event has been organized by the Cape Coral Caloosa chapter of the American Business Women’s Association, a national organization that supports all women in the workplace, regardless of their age or status. The event is sponsored by Breeze Newspapers.
The Expo is designed to bring together Cape business women of diverse backgrounds and occupations, giving them the opportunity to showcase their talents and network with other professional women.
“There’s a buzz and excitement about the Expo. Many of our members our gearing up,” Said Alissa Downing, ABWA vice president. “They’re coming up with many fun door prizes, and lots of incentives for local business owners. It’s a benefit for everyone to attend and support these local business women.”
Founded in 1949 by Hilary Bufton Jr. of Kansas City, the organization has grown over the years into a successful American institution. In 1983 Ronald Reagan proclaimed Sept. 22 as American Business Women’s Day. Today the organization is headed by Bufton’s daughter, Carolyn Bufton Elman.
Caloosa Chapter President and Woman of the Year Debbie Cullen is excited about the recent influx of new ABWA members here in the Cape. They decided to have the Expo this year to harness what Cullen called a rush of “fresh idea.”
“Its going to be a great opportunity for people to meet business women in our community and to get to know our organization,” Cullen said.
As sponsors, Breeze Newspapers considers it an honor to be involved with such a unique community event.
“We at The Breeze Newspapers are very excited to be a part of the first annual Woman in Business Expo,” said Group Manager Renee Brown. “The Breeze Newspapers looks forward to working with the ABWA to encourage the growth of women in business in the Cape Coral community.”
The ABWA’s inaugural Women in Business Expo is Thursday, May 22, 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Cape Coral Public Library.
Door prizes are to include 1,000 free business cards, and gift certificates for free family portraits, among others.
