Town of Fort Myers Beach in Hurricane Helene cleanup mode
Bay Oaks to remain closed today
Fort Myers Beach is cleaning up in the wake of Hurricane Helene.
“Fort Myers Beach Emergency Management was able to assess the effects of Hurricane Helene early this morning<" town officials said in a release issued early this morning.
Estero Boulevard and and North Estero Boulevard have sand, rock, mulch, and more along the road, the release states, adding this was expected.
Bay Oaks Recreation Center and the new Town Hall has water and silt intrusion, which the town will address today. Bay Oaks will need to remain closed today for clean-up and there will be no Club Rec After School Program today, Friday, Sept. 27.
Town staff will begin cleaning at Times Square and Town Hall at 8 a.m. while a contractor begins working on North Estero Boulevard, the release states.
“Residents are allowed and encouraged to return to the Island; however, we ask that you limit your travel this morning and if you do not need to be on the Island, please wait until cleanup is complete,” the release states.
