Woman caught breaking into car in Cape

On Monday, Aug. 1, at approximately 9:08 p.m., officers from the Cape Coral Police Department responded to a call for service in reference to a burglary in progress at a restaurant at 2481 Del Prado Blvd., North. It was alleged that a person was breaking into a vehicle in the parking lot.
According to a report from the CCPD, the owner of the vehicle exited the restaurant and noticed the driver’s side door to the vehicle was ajar. The owner was startled to find a person inside the vehicle, police said.
The person in the vehicle was later identified as Audra Marie Schwalm, 50, a transient, who was seated in the driver’s seat of the vehicle and was rummaging through the glove box.
Police said Schwalm, when confronted, had cash in her hands that she had just taken from the vehicle. The owner did not allow her to exit the vehicle to flee, officers arrived at the scene and Schwalm was immediately detained.
The investigation revealed that the vehicle was left unlocked which allowed Schwalm to make entry.
Schwalm reportedly refused to identify herself to officers and once transported to Lee County Jail her fingerprints were used to identify her.
She has been charged with burglary of a conveyance, resisting without violence and petit theft.
