A Florida Highway Patrol trooper stopped at a crash on the Cape Coral Bridge was injured this morning when his patrol vehicle was struck from behind by a pickup truck and pushed into the vehicle involved in the original crash.

According to the FHP, the trooper investigating a 7 a.m. single-vehicle crash was in their patrol vehicle waiting for a tow truck when a 2005 Toyota Tundra “veered from the right lane to avoid slowing traffic.” The front of the pickup collided with the rear of the trooper’s Dodge Charger, causing the front of the Charger to hit the rear of the Hyundai involved in the original crash.

The trooper was injured and transported to an area hospital.

The driver of the Hyundai also was listed as having been transported.

The crash remains under investigation.
