Lehigh man sentenced to 30 years for second-degree murder

A Lehigh Acres man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison in the death of a woman shot during an attempted robbery.
Raymundo Estrada, 19, was adjudicated guilty and sentenced for second degree murder with a firearm, attempted robbery – discharging a firearm, and shooting at/into an occupied vehicle.
The adjudication was the result of a negotiated plea. The sentence carries a 20-year minimum-mandatory.
The shooting occurred on Nov. 5, 2020 after the woman drove her boyfriend to a remote area of Lehigh.
“Her boyfriend planned to meet some men there,” a release from the State Attorney’s Office issued today states. “When they arrived, they met with two men, one of whom produced a firearm and attempted to rob them. He pistol-whipped the victim’s boyfriend and shot the victim in her face, killing her.”
The would-be robbers fled and the male victim drove the vehicle to another street and called 911.
After an investigation, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit identified Estrada as the perpetrator. He also admitted to the crime, officials said.
Assistant State Attorney Hamid Hunter, of the Homicide Unit, prosecuted the case.
