Voter registration deadline for the Aug. 23 Primary Election is Monday
The deadline to register to vote or change your party affiliation for the Primary Election is Monday, July 25.
Per Florida law, eligible individuals must be registered 29 days before an election to be eligible to vote in that election. Party affiliation changes must also be made 29 days before an election in order for the change to be effective for that election.
Florida is a closed primary state. In primary elections, registered voters can only vote for their registered party’s candidates in a partisan contest on the ballot. In a primary election, all registered voters, regardless of party affiliation, can vote on a nonpartisan contest or issue for which they are eligible to vote.
To register to vote, you must use a Florida Voter Registration Application or the Online Voter Registration to submit an application and update an existing registration. To submit an online application, you will need your Florida driver license or Florida identification card issued by the Florida Department of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles. If you would prefer not to utilize Online Voter Registration, you can visit one of four Lee Elections Office locations, or print out a blank Florida Voter Registration Application and mail to: Supervisor of Elections, PO Box 2545, Fort Myers, FL 33902. Florida Voter Registration Applications must be postmarked on or before July 25.
