The Florida Department of Transportation has released its Roadwatch report for District One, which includes 12 counties: Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Highlands, Lee, Manatee, Okeechobee, Polk and Sarasota

This weekly report is prepared by FDOT to inform the public about upcoming road work in Southwest Florida. Below are the work schedule and lane closure locations for major state road projects.

LEE COUNTY

I-75 at Colonial Boulevard (mile marker 136): Construction project: Crews begin construction on the I-75 at Colonial Boulevard Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) Project. Other improvements along Colonial Boulevard include a Continuous Flow Intersection (CFI) at the intersection of Six Mile Cypress Parkway/Ortiz Avenue and a Superstreet intersection at the Colonial Boulevard/Forum Boulevard intersection. I-75 will also be widened to provide an auxiliary lane in each direction from Colonial Boulevard to SR 82/Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The off-ramps at Colonial Boulevard DDI and the northbound offramp at SR 82 will have emergency stopping sites.

• Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on I-75 and the on and off ramps at Colonial Boulevard during nighttime/overnight hours from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of construction.

• Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on SR 82 (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard) through the duration of the construction.

Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the roadway through the duration of the project. The expected completion date is mid-2024. The contractor is Ajax Paving Industries of Florida.

I-75 at the Corkscrew Road (mile marker 123): Construction project: Crews will be constructing one additional eastbound to northbound left-turn lane and one additional westbound to southbound left-turn lane, creating dual left-turn lanes along Corkscrew Road to access the I-75 northbound and southbound entrance ramps. Additional improvements include extending the I-75 entrance and exit ramps approximately 1,500 feet to improve acceleration and deceleration to and from I-75, replacing the traffic signals and high mast lighting at the ramps, and raising the sidewalk to the east. Work will occur Sunday through Friday during daytime and nighttime/overnight hours, weather permitting. Motorists should expect lane closures on I-75 and Corkscrew Road during nighttime/overnight hours from 7:30 p.m. to 6 a.m.  Motorists and pedestrians should use caution while traveling in this area. Estimated project completion is summer 2021. The contractor is Preferred Materials, Inc.

US 41/Cleveland Avenue over the Caloosahatchee River: Maintenance contract project: Motorists should expect intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays, while crews perform maintenance on the bridge, weather permitting. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.

US 41/Cleveland Avenue from SR 78/Pine Island Road to North Fork Drive: Construction project: Crews will be constructing sidewalk on the east side of US 41 from Pine Island Road to North Fork Drive.

Motorists should expect lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. while crews pave the roadway. Motorists should expect delays and use caution while traveling in this area.

Estimated project completion is late summer 2021. The contractor is Ajax Paving Industries of Florida.

US 41/Cleveland Avenue from Winkler Avenue to SR 82/Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard: Construction project: Crews will be installing and relocating utilities and constructing medians on US 41/Cleveland Avenue from Winkler Avenue to SR 82.

Motorists should expect Hanson Street as a right-in/right-out only travel pattern on the west side of US 41/Cleveland Avenue.

Motorists should expect Hanson Street as a right-in/right-out only travel pattern on the east side of US 41/Cleveland Avenue.

Motorists should expect Linhart Avenue closed on the west side of US 41/Cleveland Avenue.

Motorists should expect Grace Avenue closed on the west side of US 41/Cleveland Avenue.

Motorists should expect side road closures from Winkler Avenue to Victoria Avenue throughout the duration of the project.

Motorists should expect intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures and detours on US 41/Cleveland Avenue during daytime and nighttime/overnight hours Monday through Friday throughout the duration of the project, weather permitting.

Additional work includes installing drainage structures, pedestrian signals, upgrading signals and lighting, and resurfacing existing highway. The project will be constructed in three segments.  Each segment will have the majority of construction completed prior to moving to the next segment Construction will begin on the first segment from Winkler Avenue to Carrell Road. Crews will work on the west side of the road initially and when that work is completed, they will shift to the east side of Cleveland Avenue/US 41.   The expected project completion date is the fall 2022. The Contractor is Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC.

SR 865/Gladiolus Drive at Parker Promenade: Construction project: Crews are improving drainage on Gladiolus Drive near Parker Promenade. This week, crews will be working on the roadway striping. Expected completion is summer 2021, weather permitting. The contractor is Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC.

SR 739/Metro Parkway from Winkler Avenue to Arc Way: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent outside southbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews install utilities, weather permitting. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.

SR 80/Monroe Street at Sr 82/Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 28 to 6 a.m. Thursday, July 29 while crews perform maintenance on utilities, weather permitting. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.

SR 80/Palm Beach Boulevard at Buckingham Road: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect the inside westbound lane closed during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews perform roadway maintenance, weather permitting. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.

SR 80/Palm Beach Boulevard from Riverside Drive to US 41: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent westbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews replace power poles, weather permitting. Motorists should use caution and expect delays.

SR 80/Palm Beach Boulevard from Tarpon Street to Superior Street: Maintenance contract project: Motorists should expect eastbound and westbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews repair asphalt, weather permitting. Motorists should use caution as crews work on the roadway.

State Roadways (US 41, SR 31, SR 78, SR 80, SR 82, SR 739, SR 865, and SR 867): Maintenance contract project: Crews are sweeping curb and gutter on state roadways and bridges.  Motorists should expect lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., weather permitting.  Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.

State Roadways (US 41, SR 31, SR 78, SR 80, SR 82, SR 739, SR 865, and SR 867): Maintenance contract project: Crews are restriping the state roadways and bridges.  Motorists should expect lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., weather permitting.  Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.

CHARLOTTE COUNTY

US 41 from Oakley Street to Main Street: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent southbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. weekdays, while crews reconstruct a turn lane, weather permitting. Motorists should use caution as crews work in the roadway.

SR 776/McCall Road from Sunnybrook Boulevard to Pinedale Drive: Construction project: Crews will be milling and resurfacing SR 776. Additional improvements include lighting and signalization. Lane closures will occur during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists should expect delays and use caution while traveling in this area. Estimated project completion is early spring 2021. The contractor is Preferred Materials, Inc.

SR 776/McCall Road from Placida Road/Pine Street/CR 775 to Spinnaker Boulevard: Construction project:   Crews will be milling and resurfacing SR 776 and installing new traffic signals. Additional improvements include shoulder reconstruction and new street lighting. Lane closures will occur during nighttime/overnight hours from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists should expect delays and use caution while traveling in this area. Estimated project completion is summer 2021. The contractor is Preferred Materials.

COLLIER COUNTY

US 41/Tamiami Trail at Lake Shore Drive: Construction project: Crews are improving drainage on US 41 near Lake Shore Drive. Motorists should expect the outside northbound closed for the duration of the improvements. This week, crews will be preparing to install lane striping next week. The contractor is Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC. Expected completion is summer 2021.

SR 82 from Gator Slough Lane to SR 29: Construction project:  Crews are working to widen SR 82 from Gator Slough Lane to SR 29 from a two-lane undivided highway to a four-lane divided roadway, while allowing for a future six-lane roadway.

• Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures through the duration of the project during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

• The temporary signal at SR 82 and SR 29 has been removed to allow crews to continue the construction of the roundabout. Motorists traveling eastbound on SR 82 will continue to have a stop condition (stop sign) at the intersection.

• The northbound and southbound traffic on SR 29 at SR 82 has been shifted west onto the newly constructed roadway to allow crews to build the lanes on the east side.

• Motorists can expect changing traffic patterns from Gator Slough Lane to SR 29.

The project also includes constructing 5-foot-wide paved shoulders, which will serve as bike lanes, a 54-foot wide median, a 10-foot multi-use trail along the south side, and a 5-foot sidewalk along the north side.  The intersection at SR 29 will be changed from a stop condition with flashing beacon to a roundabout. Estimated project completion is summer 2022. The Contractor is Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC.

SR 29 from I-75 to Oil Well Road: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures during daytime hours while crews install guardrail and pave the roadway, weather permitting. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.

DESOTO COUNTY

US 17 from Hibiscus Street to north of Palmetto Street: Construction project: Crews will be making improvements to US 17 from Hibiscus Street to north of Palmetto Street. Improvements include installing solar powered speed feedback signs at Hibiscus and Palmetto Streets, resurfacing portions of US 17, adding signalization at US 17 and SW Martin Luther King Junior Street, installing Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) communications on US 17, installing flashing yellow arrow signal heads and offset left turn lanes on northbound and southbound US 17, installing street lights from Hibiscus Street to Palmetto Street and pedestrian lighting at crosswalks, and installing mid-block crosswalks at Reynolds Street and Lowe Street. Motorists should expect daytime and nighttime lane closures on US 17 during construction, weather permitting.

• Motorists should expect northbound and southbound intermittent lane closures on US 17 while crews work on punch list items

• Motorists and pedestrians should be prepared for the activation of the new High Intensity Activated CrossWalK Signals (HAWKS) near Reynolds and Lowe Streets. HAWK signals are activated when a pedestrian pushes the button. Once the button is pushed, the overhead signal begins flashing yellow before changing to a solid yellow, warning motorists to slow down and prepare to stop. The signal will then change to solid red. Motorists must stop for pedestrians to safely cross. Even when the signals indicate it is safe to cross, pedestrians should always make sure traffic has stopped before entering the roadway. When the signal begins flashing red, drivers may proceed with caution if the crosswalk is clear. The signal will then go dark and remain dark until a pedestrian pushes the button to begin the process again.

Please allow extra travel time and watch for construction crews in the work zone. Estimated completion is fall 2021. The contractor is AJAX -MSB Joint Venture, LLC.

GLADES COUNTY

SR 78 in Lakeport at crossing with Herbert Hoover Dike: Construction project: Crews will construct a temporary diversion road on SR 78. Work includes installing the temporary bypass road, signs and pavement markers. During the construction of the temporary road, no delays are to be expected. Once the road is ready, lane closures will be in place for the tie-in to the existing SR 78.

• A new traffic pattern will be in place on SR 78 using the temporary diversion road. Signs will be placed in advance to warn motorists about the change of traffic pattern. Construction Cross traffic will occur on SR-78.

The temporary diversion road will stay in place as long as required to perform the construction work on Herbert Hoover dike. When complete, the contractor will proceed with the restoration of SR 78 while the diversion lane is still in place. Please use caution in the area and watch for workers/flaggers in the construction zone. Estimated completion is summer 2021. The contractor is CWR Contracting, Inc.

SR 78 from US 27 to the Herbert Hoover Bridge: Construction project: Crews will be making improvements to SR 78 from US 27 to the Herbert Hoover Bridge. Improvements include milling and resurfacing SR 78, shoulder treatments, drainage improvements, installing guard rail, repairing bridge joints, installing traffic monitoring devices and signing and pavement marking. During construction, daytime lane closures will occur on SR 78, weather permitting.

• Motorists may experience intermittent lane closures on SR 78 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday while crews perform guardrail and drainage work.

Please allow extra travel time and watch for construction crews in the work zone. Estimated completion is late 2021. The contractor is C.W. Roberts Contracting, Inc.

SR 78 Lakeport from US 27 to Buckhead Ridge: Maintenance project: Crews will be landscaping near the roadway from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, weather permitting. Motorists should use caution as crews work near and on the roadway.

SR 78 Ortona at Cypress Branch Creek: Maintenance project: Crews will be repairing ditch bottoms near the roadway from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, weather permitting. Motorists should use caution as crews work near and on the roadway.

HARDEE COUNTY

SR 636 from US 17 to SR 64: Construction project: Crews will resurface SR 636 from US 17 to SR 64. Additional work includes adding signals at the intersection of SR 636 and US 17, drainage improvements, installation of guardrail, curb and gutter, signage, and pavement markers. Daytime and nighttime lane closures will occur on SR 636 and US 17, as needed, during construction, weather permitting. Portions of SR 636 will be closed during construction. Please follow detour signs and use caution in the work zones.

• Motorists should anticipate the possibility of eastbound and westbound intermittent lane closures on SR 636 during construction.

Estimated completion is spring 2022. The contractor is Hubbard Construction Company.

CR 663 between SR 62 and SR 64: Construction project: Crews will be milling and resurfacing CR 663 between SR 62 and SR 64. Watch for lane closures with flaggers directing traffic as asphalt milling and resurfacing begins mid-June through November 2021. Use caution in the area and watch for flaggers directing traffic and trucks entering and exiting the roadway and be prepared to stop. The contractor is Hubbard Construction Company.

US 17 from Stenstrom Road to Carlton Street: Maintenance permit project: Crews will be constructing a right turn lane for the Carlton Street signal: the outside travel lane will be closed. Estimated completion is Wednesday, September 1, 2021.

HENDRY COUNTY

SR 80 from Hendry Isles Boulevard to Everhigh Road: Maintenance project: Crews will be repairing washouts near the roadway from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, weather permitting. Motorists should use caution as crews work near and on the roadway.

HIGHLAND COUNTY

US 27 from Glades County line to Polk County line: Maintenance contract project: Crews will be mowing and picking up litter along US 27 northbound and southbound from the Glades County line to the Polk County line. Please watch for workers in the work zone and use caution in the area.

US 27 north of Valerie Boulevard: Driveway permit project: Crews will be constructing a church driveway access on the northbound side of US 27 north of Valarie Boulevard. Watch for shoulder closures and a nighttime right lane closure. Please use caution and watch for crews working close to the roadway.

US 27 from Glades County line to south of Horn Road: Construction project: Crews will resurface US 27 from the Glades County line to south of Horn Street. Additional work includes modification and closing of some existing median openings, construction of Turkey Track Road, widening the radius on CR 731, construction of driveways on Ben Hill Griffin Road, Harrell Road and Gould Road East, drainage improvements, installation of curb and gutter, signing and pavement markers. Daytime and nighttime lane closures may occur during construction on US 27 as needed, weather permitting.

• Motorists should expect daytime inside lane closures on US 27 from the Glades County line to south of Horn Road. Crews will be working on cross overs.

• Motorists can expect nighttime southbound lane closures on US 27 while crews pave.

Please use caution in the area and watch for workers in the construction zone. Estimated completion is fall 2021. The contractor is AJAX Paving Industries of Florida.

US 27 at the intersection of Sebring Parkway (North Highlands Avenue): Permit project: Crews will be performing night-time work at the intersection of US 27 and Sebring Parkway. Watch for shoulder closures. Please use caution and watch for crews working close to and in the roadway.

US 27 from Cloverleaf Road to SR 66: Construction project: Crews will be making improvements to US 27 from Cloverleaf Road to SR 66. Improvements include resurfacing US 27 from Cloverleaf Road to SR 66, modifying the medians, adding left turn lanes, installing curb and gutter, signage, and pavement markers, replacing guardrail, improving drainage, and installing new traffic signals at Twitty Road and Lake Josephine Drive. Motorists should expect daytime and nighttime lane closures on US 27 during construction.

• Motorists should expect daytime lane closures on southbound and northbound US 27 from Cloverleaf Road to SR 66 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The contractor is C.W. Roberts Contracting, Inc. Estimated completion is spring 2022.

US 27 from SR 66 to Sebring Parkway (formerly South Highlands Avenue): Construction project: Crews will resurface US 27 from SR 66 to Sebring Parkway. Additional work includes adding signals and street lighting at George Boulevard, installation of curb and gutter, signage, and pavement markers. Nighttime lane closures may occur on US 27 from 7 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday during construction, weather permitting.

• Motorists should expect intermittent nighttime lane closures on US 27 while crews mill and pave.

Estimated completion is late 2021. The contractor is Hubbard Construction Company.

US 27 northbound and southbound from the Polk County Line to Highlands Avenue in Sebring: Maintenance contract project: Crews will be removing and replacing RPM’s. Please watch for workers in the work zone and use caution in the area.

US 27 northbound and southbound on the median from Sebring Lakes Boulevard in Lake Placid to Palmetto Drive: Maintenance contract project: Crews will be making repairs to the guardrail. Please watch for workers in the work zone and use caution in the area.

SR 70 from CR 29 to Lonesome Island Road: Construction project: Crews will be making improvements to SR 70 from CR 29 to Lonesome Island Road. Improvements include resurfacing SR 70 from CR 29 to Lonesome Island Road, installing signage, and pavement markers, and improving the road shoulders. Motorists should expect daytime and nighttime lane closures on SR 70 during construction.

• Motorists should expect intermittent eastbound and westbound lane closures on SR 70 from CR 29 to Lonesome Island Road while crews mill and pave.

Estimated completion is fall 2021. The contractor is AJAX Paving Industries of Florida.

SR 70 from Okeechobee County line to Desoto County line: Maintenance contract project: Crews will be mowing and picking up litter along eastbound and westbound SR 70 from the Okeechobee County line to the Desoto County line. Please watch for workers in the work zone and use caution in the area.

SR 70 from US 27 to CR 721: Maintenance project: Crews will perform weed control and tree trimming along the guardrail in this area. Motorists should use caution and expect intermittent lane closures eastbound and westbound from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

SR 64 from US 27 to Hardee County line: Maintenance contract project: Crews will be mowing and picking up litter along SR 64 from US 27 to the Hardee County line. Please watch for workers in the work zone and use caution in the area.

SR 64 eastbound and westbound from Hardee County Line to the US 27 intersection in Avon Park: Maintenance contract project: Crews will be removing and replacing RPM’s. Please watch for workers in the work zone and use caution in the area.

SR 17 from US 27 south of Lake Jackson to Main Street (SR 64): Maintenance contract project: Crews will be mowing and picking up litter along SR 17 from US 27 south of Lake Jackson to Main Street in Avon Park. Please watch for workers in the work zone and use caution in the area.

SR 17 from US 27 intersection (South Sebring) to US 27 West Main Street intersection in Avon Park: Maintenance contract project: Crews will be removing and replacing RPM’s. Please watch for workers in the work zone and use caution in the area.

MANATEE COUNTY

I-75 at SR 70 Interchange (Exit 217): Construction project: This week, crews will work on widening I-75, the ramps, installing concrete barrier wall, and median and drainage work on SR 70.

• This week, motorists should expect single lane closures on I-75 ramps during nighttime/overnight hours from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.

• Motorists should expect single lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8:45 p.m. to 6 a.m. (northbound) or 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (southbound) through the duration of the construction.

• Motorists should expect double lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.

• Motorists should expect lane closures on SR 70 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.

• Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-75 and SR 70 through the duration of the construction.

• Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the construction.

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers work is underway. Estimated completion is late fall 2021. The contractor is Sacyr Construction USA, LLC.

I-75 and Moccasin Wallow Road: Landscape installation: Crews will be installing landscaping so occasional shoulder closures may be required. Estimated completion is August 2021. The contractor is Frankie Valdez Company.

I-275 at US 19 (Exit 5): Construction project: Crews will remove the existing high mast lighting systems and replace with conventional lighting systems. This week, crews will install the electrical pull boxes.

• Motorists should expect a lane closure on I-275 during nighttime/overnight hours from 10 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers work is underway. Estimated completion is mid-2021. The contractor is Highway Safety Devices.

I-275 at US 41 (Exit 2): Construction project: Crews will remove the existing high mast lighting systems and replace with conventional lighting systems. This week, crews will install the electrical pull boxes.

• Motorists should expect a lane closure on I-275 during nighttime/overnight hours from 10 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers work is underway. Estimated completion is mid-2021. The contractor is Highway Safety Devices.

SR 684 Cortez Road at 119th Street: Landscaping project: Crews are installing landscaping on the west corner of the intersection. Occasional shoulder and lane closures may be required. Estimated completion is October 2021. The contractor is Superior Lawn and Landscaping.

SR 684 Cortez Road from US 41/ 14th Street to 26th Street: Construction project: Crews have begun a median modification project to control motorist speed and safety through the corridor, provide enhanced lighting, and improve pedestrian and bicycle safety. The posted speed limit will be maintained as will pedestrian access to bus stops and side streets. Lane closures are limited to evening and overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Expected completion is late summer 2021, weather permitting. The contractor is Wright Construction Group.

Motorists should expect overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Please use caution in the active construction zone.

SR 70 from Creekwood Boulevard to west of Caruso Road: Construction permit project: Through August 2021, a detour is in place for Caruso Road on SR 70 from Creekwood Boulevard to west of Caruso Road. This is part of the continued 44th Avenue east improvements project, constructing utility, drainage, and roadway improvements. Please plan additional travel time and use caution in the area.

SR 64 at Greyhawk Boulevard/Pope Road: Construction project: Construction of a roundabout at SR 64 and Greyhawk Boulevard/Pope Road includes installing pedestrian activated crossings on all legs of the roundabout, adding lighting and landscaping, and installing a new traffic signal and crosswalks at SR 64 and 117th Street east. The contractor is Watson Civil Construction, Inc. Expected completion is summer 2021, weather permitting.

**SPEED LIMIT IS 25 MPH THROUGH THE PROJECT**

• East and westbound lanes are one lane in each direction through the project work zone.

• The eastbound left turn at Peace Presbyterian Church will be reopened by Friday July 29, 2021.

• The eastbound left turns remain closed at Greyhawk Boulevard and Mill Run. Utilize the roundabout at SR 64 and White Eagle Boulevard/Rye Road.

• The entrance and exit to Greyhawk Boulevard for Westbound traffic has been shifted to the west to accommodate the re-construction of the east side of Greyhawk.

• Westbound travel lanes are detoured onto the newly constructed travel lanes on the north side of the median just west of Greyhawk.

• Eastbound thru lane remains the same.

• Pope Road will remain closed to thru traffic, utilize the roundabout at SR 64 and White Eagle Boulevard/Rye Road.

• Pedestrian traffic: Sidewalks are open on both side of SR 64.

SR 64 between Verna Bethany and 272nd Street east and between Dam Road and 222nd Street East: Construction maintenance: Evans Contracting will be making repairs to eroding slopes on SR 64 east in these two locations starting Monday, July 26, through Thursday, July 29, 2021, between 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists should expect flagging operations on the outside eastbound lanes. Please use caution.

OKEECHOBEE COUNTY

US 441 at 2nd Street: Utility permit project: Crews are working in the manholes between southeast 2nd Street and southwest Park Street. Watch for a nighttime right lane closure and workers in the roadway.

US 441 from NE 5th Street to NE 9th Street: Construction project: Crews will mill and resurface US 441 from NE 5th Street to NE 9th Street for a railroad crossing reconstruction. Additional work includes curb and gutter, drainage improvements, guardrail, sidewalks, signing and pavement markings and signalization.

• Motorists should expect intermittent northbound and southbound daytime and nighttime lane closures on US 441 from NE 5th Street to NE 9th Street during construction.

Estimated completion is fall 2022. The contractor is C.W. Roberts Contracting, Inc.

POLK COUNTY

I-4 at SR 557 Interchange (Exit 48): Construction project: Watch for nighttime/overnight eastbound and westbound I-4 lane closures from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. weeknights while crews excavate the old footing at the bridge. Double lane closures may occur after 10 p.m. Use caution and expect some delays.

This project includes reconstructing the interchange from an existing cloverleaf interchange to a diamond interchange with roundabouts at the ramps, replacing the two-lane bridge with a four-lane bridge, modifying SR 557 and I-4 within the interchange area and adding a new wildlife crossing under I-4. The contractor is Skanska USA Civil Southeast, Inc. Expected completion is summer 2023.

I-4 from SR 33 (Exit 38) to CR 557/Old Grade Road (Exit 48): Construction project: Construction project: Crews will resurface I-4, upgrade or replace sections of guardrail and shoulder, install new signing and roadway pavement markings, and install vehicle detection systems and traffic monitoring sites at various locations. This week, crews will be working on the guardrail and paving and striping the eastbound outside lane.

• On Sunday, July 25, at 11 p.m. to Monday, July 26, at 5 a.m., the I-4 westbound off-ramp to SR 33 (Exit 38) will be closed. Motorists are urged to follow detour signs.

• Motorists should expect single lane closures on I-4 during nighttime/overnight hours:

o Sundays through Thursdays: from 8:30 p.m. to 7 a.m.

o Fridays and Saturdays: from 9:30 p.m. to 8 a.m.

• Motorists should expect double lane closures on I-4 during nighttime/overnight hours:

o Sundays through Thursdays: from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

o Fridays and Saturdays: from 11 p.m. to 5.30 a.m.

• Motorists should expect ramp closures on I-4 during nighttime/overnight hours from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.

• Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-4 through the duration of the construction.

I-4 from US 98/SR 35 (Exit 32) to SR 33 (Exit 38): Construction project: Crews will resurface I-4, upgrade or replace sections of guardrail and shoulder, install new signing and roadway pavement markings, and install vehicle detection systems and traffic monitoring sites at various locations. This week, crews will be working resurfacing I-4 eastbound and westbound.

• Motorists should expect single lane closures on I-4 during nighttime/overnight hours:

o Mondays through Thursdays: from 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

o Fridays through Sundays: from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

• Motorists should expect double lane closures on I-4 during nighttime/overnight hours:

o Mondays through Thursdays: from 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

o Fridays through Sundays: from 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

I-4 at CSX Railroad Bridge approximately 1200 feet west of Kathleen Road (Exit 31): Construction project: There are no planned lane closures on this project for the week of Sunday, July 25, through Saturday, July 31, as crews continue working off the roadway.

This project includes replacing the existing 250-foot bridge with two new 400-foot bridges to provide for CSX double tracking and will accommodate future expansion of I-4. Expected completion is early 2024. The contractor is Condotte America, LLC.

US 98 from Rockridge Road to Old Dade City Road: Maintenance contracts: Use caution and watch for slow moving vehicles and lane closures as crews repaint the striping. Do not cross between vehicles. The contractor is Akca.

US 92 (Memorial Boulevard) west of Chestnut Road: Maintenance permit project: Westbound traffic will be shifted slightly using the center turn lane from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday, July 26, while crews drill a core in the bike lane to locate utilities. Use caution and watch for workers close to the road.

US 27 at SR 60 Interchange: Construction project: Crews will replace the bridges carrying SR 60 over US 27 and reconstruct the interchange from a partial cloverleaf design to a Single Point Urban Interchange. Other improvements include widening the roadways from four lanes to six 11-foot lanes, bicycle lanes, curb and gutter, a closed drainage system, and six-foot sidewalks. Crews will construct an urban frontage road in the southwest quadrant along SR 60 for access to local businesses. The project also includes construction of a noise wall along SR 60 from South Miami Street to west of Sharp Street, resurfacing Central Avenue from west of US 27 to Miami Street, installing signals, lighting, signage and pavement markings on US 27 and SR 60. Daytime and nighttime lane closures will occur on US 27 and SR 60 during construction. Please use caution in the area and watch for workers in the construction zone.

Motorists will need to follow the signage on SR 60 to Frontage Road for access to US 27. Motorists traveling on SR 60 westbound that wish to turn onto US 27 will utilize Frontage Road. Motorists will need to turn onto Frontage Road and follow it to US 27. US 27 at Frontage Road will have a temporary signal allowing a northbound turn onto US 27. Motorists wishing to go southbound will make the southern turn onto US 27 yielding to oncoming traffic and have the use of the acceleration lane.

• Beginning the first week of August, crews will be placing concrete at the intersection of Central Avenue and US 27. Northbound and southbound US 27 left turn lanes onto Central Avenue, east of US 27, will be closed. Please follow detours and watch for workers in the area.

• Motorists should expect eastbound and westbound lane closures on SR 60 west of US 27 while crews pave.

• Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on US 27 north of SR 60 while crews pave medians. crossovers.

There will be lane closures on SR 60, west of US 27, for paving operations. There will also be lane closures on US 27, north of SR 60, for paving medians.

US 27 at US 17/92: Construction project: Crews will remove the existing high mast lighting systems and replace with conventional lighting systems. This week, crews will install the electric pull boxes. Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers work is underway. Estimated completion is mid-2021. The contractor is Highway Safety Devices.

US 27 from Sand Mine Road to Polo Park Boulevard: Construction project: No work is planned for next week. Project improvements include adding street lighting to three intersections along US 27: Sand Mine Road, Florence Villa Grove Road and Polo Park Boulevard. Expected completion is fall 2021. The contractor is Powercore, Inc.

US 27 from Lake Streety to Harbor Drive: Maintenance contracts: Use caution and watch for slow moving vehicles and lane closures as crews repaint the striping. Do not cross between vehicles. The contractor is Acme Barricades.

US 17/92 at Bates Road: Construction project: Crews are installing new traffic signals and lighting at the intersection. This week, crews will be working on installing electric wirings. Motorists are advised to expect one lane closed on US 17 in each direction during the overnight hours between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. The contractor is Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC. Expected completion is late summer 2021, weather permitting.

SR 655 (Recker Highway) south of SR 559 near Lake Ariana subdivision: Maintenance permit project: Watch for shoulder closures and equipment entering and exiting the roadway as TECO crews replace bird deterrents and work on poles. Use caution.

SR 559 (Berkley Road) South of Anarece Avenue: Maintenance permit project: Watch for workers close to the road and trucks entering and exiting the roadway as crews pull cable through newly installed conduit and tie-in pull boxes. Use caution.

SR 559 (Berkley Road) from Marjorie Avenue to Gapway Road: Maintenance permit project: Watch for lane closures through July as crews replace five transmission poles for TECO. Use cation and be prepared to merge.

SR 544 (Martin Luther King Boulevard NW) at 3rd Street NW: Maintenance permit project: Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. as replace fuses on existing poles. Use caution and be prepared to merge.

SR 542 (East Central Avenue/Lake Elbert Drive SE) from 6th Street NE/SE to east of Lake Elbert Drive NE: Maintenance project: Watch for workers close to the road as crews begin marking plant locations and drilling. This project includes adding landscaping and irrigation from 6th Street NE/SE to east of Lake Elbert Drive NE. Plans also include adding five lake overlook locations around the south side of Lake Elbert that are each equipped with a park bench, 2-bike bike rack and trash receptacle. Green Construction Technology Inc. is the contractor. Landscape and irrigation installation is expected to be completed by early 2022.

SR 542 (Dundee Road) from Buckeye Loop Road to east of US 27: Construction project: Crews will shift traffic, reconstruct the Overlook Drive intersection and continue working on pipe, wall footers, watermain, drainage, stabilization, embankment, curb, sidewalk, lighting foundations and conduit.

• Starting Sunday night, July 25, traffic will be shifted onto the new lanes from just west of Overlook Drive to just past the old Overlook Drive merge. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern.

• When traffic is shifted, Overlook Drive at the Dundee Road intersection will be closed for reconstruction and will remain closed through Saturday, August 2, 2021. The closure is necessary to realign the intersection with the new lanes.

o DETOUR: During the closure, motorists will detour to Carl Floyd Road for access to and from Dundee Road.

o Use caution and add time to your schedule to reach your destination.

This week, crews will be working on drainage from US 27 to the east end of the construction zone.

Watch for daytime lane closures with traffic shifts using the center turn lane as crews work in the area.

Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern.

This project includes widening Dundee Road from two to four lanes, constructing an enclosed drainage system, installing a new signal at Overlook Drive and closing the Overlook Drive merge, upgrading existing signal equipment, adding sidewalk, bike lanes and street lighting, and making utility improvements for the City of Winter Haven and Town of Dundee. The contractor is Jr. Davis Construction Company. Expected completion is summer 2023.

SR 540 (Winter Lake Road) from Kings Road to Crystal Beach Road/Buccaneer Boulevard: Maintenance permit project: Watch for westbound lane closures from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. to construct a right turn lane and driveway. The median opening at Bradbury Road remains closed during construction. Use caution and be prepared to merge.

SR 540 (Winter Lake Road) from DeCastro Road to Jim Keene Boulevard: Construction project: This project includes milling and resurfacing Winter Lake Road, widening shoulders and replacing curb, upgrading signal equipment and removing the crosswalk at Thornhill Road. Expect daytime lane and shoulder closures in both directions. Use caution, be prepared to merge and expect delays. The contractor is Hubbard Construction Company. Expected completion is summer 2021.

SR 60 at various locations in Mulberry: Maintenance permits project: Watch for single lane closures and/or workers close to the road as crews from TECO work overhead to replace fuses. Use caution and be prepared to merge.

SR 37 (South Florida Avenue) from Imperial Boulevard to Glendale Street: Construction project: The center turn lane from south of Carleton Street to north of Oppitz Lane and north of Scottsdale Loop to north of Young Place is now closed. Access to driveways and side streets in the closed sections is now right-turn-in and right-turn-out only. This includes Carleton Street, Oppitz Lane, Glendale Street and Young Place. Motorists wanting to turn left in these locations should turn right onto South Florida Avenue and make a legal U-turn to head in the opposite direction.

Watch for nighttime overnight lane closures from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Friday nights as crews pave and stripe the roadway. Use caution and be prepared to merge. Some sidewalks remain closed temporarily. For pedestrian safety, follow sidewalk detours.

This project includes resurfacing from Imperial Boulevard to Glendale Street, replacing sidewalk and curb and gutter, upgrading signal equipment (including at Eastway Drive), and building concrete traffic separators at Carleton Street, Oppitz Lane and Glendale Street. The contractor is Hubbard Construction Company. Expected completion is summer 2021.

SR 37 (South Florida Avenue) from Carter Road to Fitzgerald Road: Construction project: Crews continue clearing, pouring sidewalk and drainage construction. Watch for shoulder closures and workers close to the road. This project includes connecting sidewalks on both sides of South Florida Avenue from Carter Road to Fitzgerald Road; resurfacing the intersections at Carter Road, Shimmering Drive/Shepherd Road, Christina Boulevard, Ewell Road/CR 540A, Brannen Road and Schoolhouse Road/Fitzgerald Road; constructing concrete bus pads at or near existing bus stops; and upgrading signal equipment. The contractor is Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC. Expected completion is early 2022.

SR 33 from Faith Baptist Church to Old Polk City Road: Maintenance permit project: Watch for daytime lane closures with flaggers directing traffic from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. as crews construct turn lanes. Use caution and be prepared to stop.

SR 33 south of North Combee Road: Maintenance permit project: Watch for periodic daytime lane closures with southbound lane shift as crews construct a new turn lane and driveway into the Bridgewater Grand Apartments. Construction is expected to be completed by summer 2021. Use caution and be prepared to stop or merge.

SR 17 (Scenic Highway) from Central Park to Lake Marie Park: Construction project: Crews continue installing sidewalk and drainage items. Watch for workers close to the road throughout the project as crews continue clearing, pouring sidewalk and installing drainage items. This project includes constructing an eight-foot-wide concrete sidewalk along SR 17 from the existing path in East Central Park to the existing Lake Marie Bike Trail; constructing six-foot wide concrete sidewalk from the existing Lake Marie Bike Trail to the existing Dundee sidewalk system; installing a mid-block crosswalk across Main Street; and reconstructing the driveway connections at Dundee Baptist Church and at Lake Marie Park. The contractor is American Design Engineering Construction, Inc. Expected completion is fall 2021.

SARASOTA COUNTY

US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue Roundabout: Construction project: Crews will work within the right-of-way, medians, driveways and throughout the project limits.

Activities includes

• The HAWK signal pedestrian crossing at 1st Street is expected to be close starting Wednesday, July 28, 2021. Pedestrian crossings will be available on Fruitville Road or Main Street. Please use designated paths and follow posted signs.

• Construction of the temporary roadway along the Marina Jacks parking lot continues. Activity involves trucking material to the east and west side of US 41.

• Pre-work for removal of existing curb and median on US 41 and Gulfstream Avenue in preparation for the next traffic phase. These activities will take place during the during nighttime hours.

• Delivery and compaction of roadway base material for construction of the temporary roadway. Expect vibration from compactors/rollers.

• Installation of electrical conduit along the east side of Gulfstream Avenue. This work will take place between the ponds and sidewalk.

Detours/Crossings:

• Pedestrian crossing at the US 41 and Gulfstream Avenue intersection is closed in preparation for the next traffic phase. Temporary pedestrian paths around the work zone have been implemented. Pedestrian crossings are available on Fruitville Road or Main Street during construction. Please use designated paths and follow posted detour signs.

• Marina Jacks north parking lot entrance/exit on Gulfstream Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic. Motorists may access the parking lot via Bayfront Drive at Main Street/Marina Plaza. No through traffic allowed through this area.

• Eastbound through travel lane on Gulfstream Avenue (towards downtown) will remain closed as part of the Pre-Phase of construction. Use alternate routes via Main Street or Fruitville Road.

Upcoming Activities:

Major traffic shift to the next construction phase is projected mid-August, weather permitting. The transition to the new traffic pattern is expected take several days and will occur throughout the weekend. Crews are expected to work continuously, day and night until the traffic shift is complete. Police officers and roadway flaggers will be onsite to direct motorist onto the new lane conditions and patterns.

Construction activities will take place during the daytime and occasionally during nighttime hours.

Expect noise and vibration from construction equipment, backup alarms, lighting, vacuum trucks, and pumps.

Motorists are urged to use caution and watch for construction vehicles and dump trucks entering or exiting the work zone.

Detours and lane closures will be in place during various phases of the project. During construction, the speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph on US 41 and Gulfstream Avenue.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of replacing the existing signalized intersection on US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue with a roundabout, installation of HAWK pedestrian crossing signal system, raised pedestrian refuge islands, replacement of underground drainage structures, utilities, fiber optic, new LED streetlights, reconfiguration of stormwater retention ponds, sidewalks, and pedestrian walkways. Expected completion is early fall 2022. The contractor is Russell Engineering, Inc.

US 41 (Venice Bypass) from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are widening US 41 from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard to a six-lane highway, replacing traffic signals, installing new pavement markings and signage; installing concrete curb and sidewalks; improving new drainage; and installing new highway lighting. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. The contractor is Bergeron Land Development, Inc. Expected completion is August 2021.

A new traffic switch goes into effect beginning Friday, July 23, 2021. North and southbound traffic will shift towards the median, allowing traffic to flow in each direction while the contractor finishes activities near the outside lanes.

Motorists should expect intermittent interruptions of the median crossings into shopping centers and side streets throughout the month of May while crews perform work in the medians. Motorists who are not able to turn at the desired median crossing can travel further down the roadway to make a U-turn where available.

Intermittent daytime lane closures will be in effect on northbound US 41 Bypass from Center Road to Venice Avenue from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please watch for crews in the roadway.

Pedestrian traffic has been shifted to the newly constructed sidewalk on the east and west sides of the roadway. Sidewalk construction continues along some segments on the east side of the roadway. Pedestrians should use caution and use the temporary pedestrian access pathway in those areas.

Crews are working within the driveways and the right-of-way along the northbound and southbound lanes of US 41. Please use caution when turning into businesses and shopping plazas.

SR 789 at New Pass Bridge, Longboat Key: Bridge construction: The improvement project

includes structural, mechanical, and electrical repairs to the bridge. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained during the construction but please use caution in the area as lane patterns will be adjusted. If bridge closures are required, they will be done between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. with no detour longer than 30 minutes.

Equipment testing at the bridge will be required for the remainder of the project, requiring bridge openings. When possible, inspectors will test in the early morning hours from 6 to 7 a.m. to minimize inconvenience. (If necessary, the contractor is allowed two openings per hour but for no longer than 10 minutes and they must be at least 15 minutes apart.)

Temporary lane shifts may be used as the project enters its final stages, but both lanes will remain open.

• Pedestrians can only use the protected sidewalk on the west side of the bridge.

• Bicyclists must walk their bikes across the grates as permanent signage directs.

• For marine openings, a 6-hour advance reservation is required thru July 31, 2021.

The contractor is Quinn Construction. Completion is expected by summer 2021.

SR 72 Clark Road at Proctor Road and Dove Avenue Roundabout: Construction project: Crews will begin work on the new free-flowing roundabout replacing the current signalized intersection. Completion is expected in fall 2022. The contractor is E & M Equipment.

• During Phase I: the contractor will install sidewalk closures, install temporary signals, and construct the north side of the roundabout at SR 72 and the west side of Proctor Road.

• The contractor has begun installing the “maintenance of traffic” (MOT) advanced warning signs, erosion control devices, and clearing and grubbing the north side of SR 72. Work will be limited to shoulder closures with short duration flagging operations to unload equipment and materials.

• Over the next few weeks, the contractor will be constructing temporary lanes on the north side of SR 72. Flagging operations on SR72 and Proctor Road are possible.

• Lane closures and traffic shifts will be in place during various phases of the project so use caution in the construction zone.

• Lane closures are not allowed from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. or during non-work periods.

SR 72 Clark Road at Sawyer Road, Legacy Trail Extension Segment 2: Permit project: Crews will be working on the continued Legacy Trail construction. Please use caution in the area. Expected completion is late summer.

Scheduled:

• Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, July 26 through July 28, westbound outside lanes will be closed for the demolition, removal and replacement of curbs and sidewalk.

• Monday, August 2: Shifting to the east side, outside lanes will be closed for the demolition and removal of train tracks and full depth asphalt restoration

• Thursday, August 5: Eastbound two inside lanes will be closed for the demolition and removal of train tracks and full depth asphalt restoration

• Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, August 8 through August 11: Eastbound outside lane will be closed for the demolition, removal and replacement of curbs and sidewalk.

• Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, August 16 through August 18: Both the east and westbound inside lanes will be closed for curb demolition and replacement.
