One person was killed and two others were injured and transported to Lee Memorial Hospital this morning after a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Diplomat Parkway.

According to a report from the Florida Highway patrol, at 7:50 a.m. today, an 85-year-old Cape man was killed when he attempted to turn his sedan-type vehicle north onto U.S. 41 after coming to a stop at the end of Diplomat Parkway. As the man attempted to cross the southbound lanes of U.S. 41 to turn north, he reportedly drove his vehicle into the path of a sedan-type vehicle being driven south by a 73-year-old Cape Coral man. The front left portion of the southbound vehicle struck the left side of the turning vehicle in the accident.

The FHP reported that both the 73-year-old man and an 82-year-old woman who was a passenger in the turning car were injured and transported to Lee Memorial with reported minor injuries. The other driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
