Veterans and active duty military invited to Tour Burroughs Home and Gardens for free
Veterans and all serving in the military are invited to a free tour of the historic Burroughs Home and Gardens in the downtown River District in Fort Myers Wednesday, Nov. 11, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. No appointments are necessary; tour guides will be available all day.
Lemonade and snacks will also be provided at no cost to our honored veterans.
The address of the Burroughs Home is 2505 First St., Fort Myers. Parking is available across the street from the home behind the Langford-Kingston home at 2500 First Street.
The guided tours include a walk among live oaks and lush gardens, with an opportunity to relax in a rocking chair on the verandah while watching the Caloosahatchee River roll gently by. Built in 1901, the Burroughs Home is a Georgian Revival Mansion and was the scene of many social events that hosted the Fort Myers’ elite including the Edisons, Fords and Firestones. Antique furnishings, historical artifacts and delightful tales of growing up as the privileged daughters of wealthy businessman Nelson Burroughs and his wife, Adeline, await visitors who want to take a step back in time.
The Burroughs Home is under the management of the Uncommon Friends Foundation. The Uncommon Friends Foundation, a not for profit 5013 organization established in 1993, is dedicated to lifelong character building among today’s youth and business leaders. Its mission is to promote character education in schools, business ethics in the workplace, and historic preservation of the Burroughs Home and James Newton archives.
