Two chased, charged with burglary
Thursday, around 11:40 p.m., Cape Coral Police responded to a burglary in progress in the 3300 block of Southeast 19 Avenue.
According to a press release from the CCPD, when officers arrived, they learned that the victim’s husband chased the burglary suspects down the street on foot and was now pursuing the suspects in a car near Del Prado Boulevard and Viscaya Parkway.
Additional units responded to locate the suspect vehicle.
Realizing that they were being followed, according to police, the suspects began throwing items that they had stolen from the car. Cape Police Officer Ross located the suspect vehicle and conducted a high-risk car stop with K9 Officer McCreary and Trainee Mitchell.
The report states that Tajian L. Willoughby, 18, of 3634 Central Ave., Fort Myers, and Jordyn E. Yepez, 18, of 828 N.E. 8th St., Cape Coral, along with a third subject, were detained following the traffic stop.
Officers were able to retrace the vehicle’s path and recover items that were confirmed to belong to the victim, police said.
Evidence was gathered and statements were obtained from witnesses. Willoughby and Yepez were charged with burglary of a conveyance and violation of probabtion.
Cape Coral Police property detectives were notified and Yepez and Willoughby are also suspects in a rash of car burglaries and stolen cars that occurred overnight Sept. 23 into Sept. 24, according to the CCPD release.
Additional charges are pending.
