Lee County DOT issues Roadwatch Update

The Lee County Department of Transportation has issued the following “Roadwatch Update” for May 5-11

Update 4/14/2011

Colonial Blvd (CR 884) Six Laning from I-75 to State Rd 82 (approx. 2.7 miles in length)

Construction activities began on Monday, Aug. 10, 2009. Proposed work consists of widening

an existing four-lane highway facility, to a six-lane urbanized divided highway. This will include

the installation of street lighting, signalization, bridge widening and utility modifications. Two 8-

foot wide asphalt multi-use sidewalks along the north and south sides of the road will be added.

Daniels Parkway Six Laning – Chamberlin Parkway to Gateway Boulevard

Lee County is widening Daniels Parkway from four to six lanes from Chamberlin Parkway to

Gateway Boulevard. This project includes reconstructing the Daniels Parkway and Chamberlin

Parkway intersection to create a four way signalized intersection. Chamberlin Parkway is

temporarily closed between Daniels Parkway and Air Cargo Lane until the intersection

construction is completed. Chamberlin Parkway traffic is detoured to Paul J. Doherty Parkway

for access to Chamberlin Parkway and Skyplex Commercial Center while this work is underway.

Variable message boards and detour signs are posted to direct traffic.

The majority of the widening along Daniels Parkway will take place within the median along

with some minor shoulder widening and turn lane construction occurring along the outside lanes.

Motorists should expect eastbound and westbound lane closures on Daniels Parkway

between Chamberlin Parkway and Gateway Boulevard during nighttime/overnight work

from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. (excluding Friday night/overnight, Saturday night/overnight and

Sunday night/overnight). Landscaping within the median will be installed as part of the

project. In addition, this project will mill and resurface Daniels Parkway from Treeline Avenue

to Fuel Farm Road. The roadway work is expected to be complete in February 2012. The

Matlacha Bridge – The replacement of the Matlacha Bridge began Oct. 11, 2010. Traffic will remain on the

existing bridge with reduced lane widths; the sidewalk on the south side of the bridge will be

closed. Two-way traffic will be maintained during daylight hours. The project will take

approximately two years. Additional information is available on the project website at

Update 4/28/2011

Midpoint Memorial Toll Plaza Demolition/Reconstruction-

Construction on the toll plaza continues. Lane 1 will be closed for reconstruction. The bike path

behind the toll plaza is closed. Bicyclists must use Lane 2, the furthest lane open on the right, and

stop at the toll booth. Beginning the night of May 8 and continuing until the morning of May 13

there will be intermittent nighttime lane closures for final paving on the westbound lanes through the

plaza work zone.

Emergency access is available for authorized vehicles on the east end of the toll plaza via the parking

lot.

Six Mile Cypress Parkway Four Laning Daniels Parkway to south of Winkler Road –

Southbound Six Mile Cypress Parkway traffic is shifted to the east just south of Heritage

Palms Boulevard. PLEASE DRIVE WITH CARE and be aware of heavy equipment

entering/exiting the roadway. This project will widen the two-lane section of Six Mile Cypress

to a four-lane divided highway. This work will include the installation of a signalized

intersection at Penzance Boulevard and the addition of a paved path along the west side of the

roadway from Heritage Palms to Daniels Parkway. The tentative completion date is December

Update 3/24/2011

Summerlin Rd. – from Cypress Lake Dr. to Boy Scout Rd. Work is under way to complete

the bridge deck over the Summerlin/College intersection . Project completion is May, 2011.

II. Road/Bridge Maintenance

New 4/28/2011

Ben Hill Griffin -Installation of underground fiber conduits will begin at Ben Hill Griffin/FGCU

Lake Parkway West and end at Ben Hill Griffin and Miromar Outlet/Grande Oaks. Men and

equipment will be working in close proximity to travel lanes. Please use caution when traveling

in the construction area as noted. The timeframe for this project is 4/26/2011 through 6/24/2011.

Big Carlos Bridge #120028, on Bonita Beach Rd. over Big Carlos Pass – Lee County DOT

Operations will be managing the concrete repairs and overlay project for Big Carlos Bridge. The

job is scheduled to start May 2 and finish July weather permitting. There will be

single lane closures from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Variable message boards will be placed to alert

3/3/2011:

Cape Coral Bridge #124044, on College Parkway westbound over Caloosahatchee – Lee County

DOT Operations will be managing the concrete repairs and overlay project for Cape Coral

Bridge. The job is scheduled to start March 21, 2011 and finish July, 2011, weather permitting.

There will be single lane closures from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Variable message boards will be

placed to alert drivers to bridge closures. If you have any questions, please contact Ehab

Imperial Parkway -Lee County DOT Operations will be managing the Wagon trail Box

Culvert repairs project on Imperial Parkway over New Canal. The project will last for 14 days

Woodland Blvd Woodland Blvd between Chatham St and Crest Ln will be closed on Tuesday

May 10 and Thursday May 11. The traffic will be detoured onto Ivy, between Chatham St and

Crest Ln. The hours of road closure will be between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. If you have any

48th St SW – between Connie Avenue, S., and Dora Avenue, S., will be closed for pipe replacement

starting 4/25/2011. The detour would be 52nd Street. This project will last approx. two weeks. Any

Daniels & Brynwood – Signal work will be occurring at Daniels & Brynwood on Thursday, May 5,

from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lee County Sheriff’s Office will be onsite to direct traffic.
