Lee County school bus driver charged with DUI
A bus driver with the Lee County School District was arrested after an alert off duty Lee County sheriff’s deputy reportedly spotted her weaving on the road in her personal vehicle. According to a sheriff’s office report, the driver of that vehicle, Lane Tripp, was on her way to the Lee County bus barn on North Leonard Avenue in Lehigh Acres to report for work.
The off-duty deputy contacted uniformed deputies and followed Tripp to the bus barn. When uniformed deputies arrived, the off-duty deputy was able to point out Tripp, who was sitting against a light pole by herself.
Contact was made with Tripp, who reportedly smelled of a moderate odor of alcohol and whose eyes appeared very bloodshot.
Tripp was given an opportunity to perform field sobriety exercises, to which she stumbled and was unable to maintain her balance, the report states.
A breath test was performed with revealed blood alcohol readings of .252 and .245, more than three times Florida’s legal limit.
