FMPD officer charged with battery
On Tuesday, March 22, at 7:05 p.m., Fort Myers Police Officer Oneil Kerr was arrested by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office for a misdemeanor battery. He is accused of being involved in a domestic dispute with his wife.
Kerr has been employed with the department for just less than three years.
“This is not the conduct that we would expect from one of our officers. State statute and department policy requires due process and Officer Kerr has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of a criminal investigation and an internal affairs investigation by our Professional Standards Bureau,” said FMPD Chief Doug Baker.
Kerr was arrested at the Lee County Jail after turning himself in to deputies. As with any other criminal investigation, the case will be forwarded to the State Attorney’s Office.
