Applications available for Annual Law Camp
The Fort Myers Police Department is now accepting applications for the 21st Annual Respect for Law Camp, which is scheduled for June 17-20 at Dunbar Middle School, 4750 Winkler Avenue Extension.
The goal of the camp is to give youngsters an up-close look at law enforcement. By doing that, police hope to build respect for the law and enhance the child’s self-esteem. The staff members of the camp are various state and local law enforcement personnel and guest speakers. Highlights for the 2010 camp include live police scenarios, SWAT demonstrations, K9 demonstrations, mass casualty simulations, police/fire obstacle courses, hands-on equipment displays and team building activities.
The four-day, three-night Respect for Law Camp is open to children ages 11-14. Enrollment in the camp is limited to the first 132 campers to apply. The cost is $50 and includes all instruction, food, and lodging. To register, an application must be completed with a check or money order attached (made out to “Respect for Law Camp”). Children from throughout Southwest Florida are welcome to apply.
Applications are available at the Fort Myers Police Department, any middle school in the city of Fort Myers also online at www.RespectForLaw.net. The deadline is June 1.
