Police Chief honors emergency communications personnel
Fort Myers Police Chief Doug Baker has issued a public “thank You” to all emergency operators and dispatchers for their vital role in emergency services, as part of National Public Safety Telecommunications Week, April 11-17.
In the city of Fort Myers, 22 communications professionals work 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to ensure public safety. In 2009 they answered 165,659 calls for service. They are a critical link between the general public, department personnel and other agencies often providing life-saving information to callers.
National Public Safety Telecommunications Week was first introduced to Congress in 1991 and is recognized the second full week of April every year.
