Fort Myers police charge two in auto burglaries
On Monday, Nov. 2, the Fort Myers Police Department received a tip in reference to two suspicious people trying to open vehicle door handles at two local apartment complexes. The tipster gave detailed descriptions of the suspects.
Upon arrival, officers located the suspects and detained them. Reports indicated that Anthony Cleveland, 23, of Texas and Heather Larson, 22, of Texas, initially attempted to give police false names to the officers.
According to reports, further investigation not only revealed their true identities but stolen merchandise from up and down the east coast from Maine to Florida.
Police conducted search warrants on their motel room and their car. Detectives reportedly recovered thousands of dollars worth of merchandise including GPS systems, cell phones, wallets, a shotgun, money, laptops, video games, digital cameras, portable DVD players and the burglary tools they used to break into vehicles.
Currently detectives are working to return items to the rightful owners. Police arrested Cleveland for burglary, theft and giving a false name and Larson for burglary, theft, giving a false name and possession of a controlled substance.
