Chiquita boat lock will close for final repairs
The Chiquita boat lock will be closed beginning at 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, to allow crews to complete final repairs and modifications to the structure. The city will be adding flotation tanks to the gates to help reduce stress on the gate hinges. Work will be conducted on Tuesday, and the lock is scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 8 a.m.
The Chiquita lock was out of service from Oct. 2-14 after the west gate became inoperable. The structure required major concrete and steel work to repair the damaged lock. This final modification should help stabilize the gates and improve the operation of the lock.
