Oasis to hold groundbreaking for garden project

1 min read

Oasis Middle School welcomes the community to attend the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the new Oasis School Garden on Monday, Oct. 26, at 2:45pm. As part of this year’s Service Learning Project at Oasis Middle School, the 6th and 7th grade fourth-period science classes along with the school’s Ecology Club have been planning the garden design and starting hundreds of seeds indoors to prepare for the new school garden.

The first goal for the garden is to produce enough fresh vegetables to supplement the school salad bar. Inspiration for this project has come from reading about the Bonita Springs Middle School Garden and Alice Water’s Edible Schoolyard in California, as well as hands-on training provided by ECHO Global Farm in North Fort Myers to some of the teachers and students. Oasis parent volunteer Matt Bobe is acting as the garden manager for this multi-grade project.

Oasis Middle School is part of the City of Cape Coral Charter School System and has 744 students enrolled in grades 6-8. It is located at 3507 Oasis Blvd.
