Traffic lane shift set on Santa Barbara Boulevard

Motorists should be on alert for a shift in traffic to the east side of Santa Barbara Boulevard from S.W. 19th Street to S.W. 22nd Terrace. Starting Thursday, Sept. 24, at approximately 7 p.m., travel lanes on the west side of the road will be closed to motorists, reducing both northbound and southbound traffic on the east side of Santa Barbara Boulevard to one lane only between S.W. 19th Street and S.W. 22nd Terrace.

In addition, the temporary closure of side streets at S.W. 22nd Terrace, S.W. 20th Street and S.W. 19th Street will be necessary for crews to construct the west side of Santa Barbara Boulevard. Motorists should expect periodic delays due to daytime lane closures at S.W. 21st Street.

Detour: Motorists wishing to access Santa Barbara Boulevard from S.W. 19th Street and S.W. 20th Street will travel on Santa Barbara Place, north to Trafalgar Parkway and east onto Santa Barbara Boulevard. Motorists wishing to access Santa Barbara Boulevard from S.W. 22nd Terrace should travel north on Santa Barbara Place, east on S.W. 21st Street and onto Santa Barbara Boulevard. Motorist wishing to access S.W. 19th Street and S.W. 20th Street should turn west onto Trafalgar Parkway and south onto S.W. Santa Barbara Place.

Advance warning signs, electronic message boards and barricades will be used to assist motorists traveling through the area. Construction on this section of roadway is scheduled for approximately the next several months Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

While traveling through the work zone, motorists are urged to use caution, obey the posted speed limit of 35 mph and seek alternate routes whenever possible. Please be advised that unforeseen circumstances such as weather may affect the construction schedule.
