Lee County Port Authority seeking exhibitors for Aviation Day 2009
Aviation Day 2009 will be held Saturday, Nov. 14, at Page Field General Aviation Airport from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The Lee County Port Authority is looking for exhibitors who would like to show their aircraft or display and/or sell aviation-related memorabilia.
Aviation Day is a free annual community event that promotes education and awareness of the aviation industry in Southwest Florida. The main attractions this year will be a North American B-25 Mitchell and a Vought F4U Corsair. The B-25 is a World War II medium bomber and was made famous by Gen. James Doolittle and the pilots who flew the daring raid on Japan in 1942. It is interesting to note that training on this aircraft type was conducted at Page Field. The Corsair, a distinctively designed fighter plane built during World War II, was made famous by the “Black Sheep Squadron.” It was also used in Korea as a carrier-based fighter.
Other attractions will include experimental, antique and other general aviation aircraft exhibits, airplane and helicopter rides, children’s activities and character appearances, a 17-piece jazz ensemble playing music from the Big Band Era through the ’80s, clowns, face painting, demonstrations by airport police and fire departments, refreshments and more. Aviation Day 2008 attracted more than 5,000 visitors so this event provides excellent exposure for exhibitors.
Exhibitor/sales booth space is free and will be housed under a large tent. The Port Authority will provide a table and two chairs for each participant under the tent and will work with individual vendors based on requirements and space.
