Wolfpack operation set for this weekend
With a holiday weekend upon us, a joint traffic safety initiative aimed at cracking down on impaired drivers is planned for sometime this weekend at an undisclosed location in Lee County. To finish off the “Drunk Driving. Over the Limit, Under Arrest” campaign, various state, county and local law enforcement agencies will participate in the saturation effort, often referred to as a wolfpack. They will be on high alert for aggressive drivers, speeders and those driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Geographic areas for the saturation patrols are selected as a result of concerns and complaints from citizens, as well as analysis of traffic surveys and crash data. The multi-agency participation also serves to emphasize the commitment of law enforcement to public education of traffic laws and motorist safety.
Daily enforcement, sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols by deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office are a part of on-going efforts to curb traffic fatalities, injuries and crashes in Lee County. Various community partnerships, including planned operations such as noted above, are established with the goal of educating and informing the public on traffic safety issues.
