Grand opening set for Hindu Temple of Southwest Florida

The grand Opening of the Hindu Temple of Southwest Florida, 12552 Plantation Road, Fort Myers, will be held Saturday, Aug. 15, 4-6:30 p.m.

The temple will serve an estimated 800+ members in Southwest Florida. The opening celebration of the only Hindu temple between Tampa and Miami – five years in the making – will feature three separate, scared ceremonies to ensure auspicious and favorable beginnings.

The first Hindu deity to grace the temple will be elephant-headed Ganesha, “remover of all obstacles.” The 8,600-foot temple is located on seven-plus acres on Plantation Road, heralding unity in the region’s diversity.

– Saturday, Aug. 15 – Vaastu Pooja, 4-6:30 p.m.

Vastu pooja for Vastu Gods is performed outside a new home or building before the actual entry into the house.

Vastu pooja consists of worship of the Vastu Gods, the deities directions East, West, North, South, Northeast, Southeast, Northwest and Southwest and 49 other deities residing in Vastu, which bring Health, Wealth, Peace, Prosperity & Happiness.

Sri Krishna Janmashtami, 8 p.m .to midnight

The Birthday of Lord Krishna, the reincarnation of Lord Vishnu will be celebrated. He will be worshipped in his baby form in a cradle/swing.

– Sunday, Aug. 23 – Ganesh Chaturthi, 10 a.m. to noon

The Birthday of Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, will be celebrated. He is the son of Lord Shiva. He will be the main deity of the temple.
