Fire damages Fort Myers home; dogs rescued
Today at approximately 10:23 a.m., the Fort Myers Fire Department received a call of a structure fire at 4855 West Drive. Firefighters arrived on scene at 10:25 a.m.
When firefighters arrived they reported that heavy smoke could be seen coming from the single family residence. The owner was not home at the time, but as firefighters forced open the front door, two large dogs escaped from the home. The dogs were in good shape and were administered oxygen on scene as a precaution.
Preliminary investigation reveals the fire started near the stove and is not considered suspicious at this time. The kitchen suffered fire damage and there is smoke damage throughout the house. The two occupants and two dogs will be assisted by Red Cross.
The Fort Myers Fire Department had three engines, one ladder truck and the battalion chief on scene.
The scene was cleared at 12:08 p.m.
