Man wanted in Lee County arrested in Virginia
A tip to Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers has reportedly led to the arrest of a Lee County fugitive on the run for four years.
Osvaldo Romero, 29, formerly of Lehigh Acres, was facing numerous drug charges when he fled Lee County in 2005, according to local officials.
Armed with 12 felony warrants, the U.S. Marshal’s Office Southwest Florida Regional Task Force tracked Romero across the United States and Mexico before catching up with him on May 5 in Linden, Va. A call to the U.S. Marshal’s Office in Virginia reportedly led to his apprehension.
In addition to the 12 felony warrants out of Lee County, Romero also has two felony warrants out of Seminole County, Fla., for exhibition of a dangerous weapon.
Extradition proceedings are under way to bring Romero back to Lee County.
