Sheriff’s Office warns residents of telephone scam
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has issued another warning about a telephone scam in the area.
“This is Craig from the church” — That is how the caller starts out his conversation; he has been described as a very polite young man who says he is calling from “the church” and that they are in the middle of updating their database and need to know if you are available to meet to sign a document that allows “the church” to update your information.
“This all sounds innocent, but it is not true and everyone needs to take a few moments to check out what is said before agreeing to anything or giving out any information,” Sheriff Mike Scott said.
This scam alert was issued after two neighbors, visiting each other, found they had received the same phone call, but do not go to the same church.
This prompted them to call the Lee County Sheriff’s Office to warn others that this scam is taking place.
