Annual “Do The Right Thing Regional Picnic” Saturday, April 25

2 min read

The annual “Do The Right Thing Regional Picnic” will be Saturday, April 25, at Lakes Park. The picnic begins at 11 a.m. and is hosted by the police departments from Fort Myers, Cape Coral and Punta Gorda, and the Collier County and Lee County sheriff’s offices. During the event, five students will be recognized as “Student of the Year” by their respective law enforcement agencies.

The local law enforcement agencies in Southwest Florida come together at the end of the school year to host a grand event for the “Do The Right Thing” winners, which includes special awards, games, food, law enforcement “show and tell,” such as the K-9 unit, SWAT team, bomb squad and dive team. This is the 12th year that these agencies have recognized our community’s young people for the positive things they have done through “Do The Right Thing.” These students have saved lives, helped fellow students, earned money for a charity, reported drugs or weapons in their schools, and organized mailings to soldiers. They are role models for their peers, and through the “Do The Right Thing” program, they can be recognized by the community for their actions.

All of the DTRT winners from this school year in Southwest Florida are invited to attend the picnic. Students must contact their nominating police agency to RSVP. Check-in will be from 9:30 10:30 a.m.

Here are the five students who will be recognized as “Student of the Year” at the picnic.
