1 min read

The Fort Myers Police Department is in the process of applying for the Recovery Act: Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant. The department is seeking $397,664 in federal funding over a four-year period. If awarded the full amount FMPD will use the funding for the hiring of personnel, special operations targeting violent crime offenders, training and in-car video systems

The Edward Byrne Memorial State and Local Law Enforcement Assistance Grant Program was created in 1988. It is a partnership among federal, state and local governments to create safer communities. The grant may be used to provide personnel, equipment, training, technical assistance and information systems for more widespread apprehension and prosecution of criminals.
