FMFD extinguishes structure fire
Today at approximately 11:30 a.m., the Fort Myers Fire Department received a call of a structure fire at 3555 Royal Palm Avenue. Firefighters reportedly arrived on scene at 11:34 a.m.
All of the occupants of the single-family home were safely outside when firefighters arrived, according to reports. Upon arrival, the firefighters observed smoke and flames coming from the home. The fire was quickly extinguished and crews were able to contain the fire to one of the bedrooms.
The fire is considered an accident and preliminary investigation reveals it was started by a young child in the bedroom. The structure suffered heavy smoke and water damage throughout and is uninhabitable at this time.
The Fort Myers Fire Department had three engines, two ladder trucks and a rescue unit on scene.
The scene was cleared at 12:26 p.m. The occupants of the home will be staying with family in the area, according to the FMFD.
