A Cape Coral man on trial for the stabbing death of another Cape resident has been found guilty of manslaughter. The verdict against Ronnie Perez, 26, was handed down by the jury in a Lee County Circuit Court at around 2:30 p.m. today.

Perez was on trial for second degree murder for the June 21, 2007, stabbing death of William Lowell, 36, in the victim’s Northeast First Street home.

Presiding over the trial was Lee County Circuit Judge Edward Volz.

Sentencing is scheduled for March 9. While Perez could have faced life in prison if he had been convicted of second degree murder, the manslaughter charge carries a maximum sentence of 15 years.
