Water Service will be shut down in Coronado area for scheduled tie-in today
Water service will be interrupted to 156 homes and businesses this evening while city utility crews install two new valves as part of the ongoing galvanized piping improvement project in the older, southeast Cape. Homeowners east of Del Prado on Southeast 40th Street, Southeast 40th Terrace and Southeast 41st Street will be without water beginning at 6 p.m. and continuing until 3 a.m. Tuesday (at the latest). About 15 businesses on Del Prado Boulevard, a few additional homes on Coronado Parkway and apartments in the Cape Colony Apartment complex also are affected by the shutdown.
The after-hours shutdown is necessary because water service cannot be interrupted during the daytime hours at businesses on Del Prado (i.e. the Eye Center). While crews expect to complete the work within four hours, residents will be under a precautionary boil water notice for at least 72 hours after water service is restored. Door hangers have been placed at all affected properties, and residents will receive a rescission notice when the water testing is complete.
