Deputies search for vehicle of interest in string of break-ins
A string of local businesses in south Fort Myers were broken into earlier this month, and now detectives believe they have a picture of the suspect’s vehicle caught on video.
Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s help identifying the driver of the white pickup truck visible in the video. Detectives with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said three businesses in the Publix Shopping Center, located at College Parkway and South Pointe Boulevard, were burglarized in the early morning hours of Jan. 7.
Surveillance cameras captured video of the truck within a minute of the break-ins being reported. Detectives are hopeful that someone will recognize the truck, due to some of its unusual features.
The vehicle in question is a white ’90s model Chevy 2500 extended cab, with a front brush guard, black running bars and a 6-inch lift kit. Anyone with information on this vehicle, or its driver, is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000. Tips may also be made online at www.swflcrimestoppers.org.
