FGCU freshman earns Player of the Week honor
Florida Gulf Coast University freshman guard Reggie Chambers turned in the best week of the season helping the Eagles record their first three-game win streak as a Division I program. For his efforts, he was named Tuesday as the first freshman this season to receive the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week award.
Chambers, of Miramar, helped the Eagles improve to 4-3 in A-Sun play Monday night with a major upset win over the previously undefeated East Tennessee State Buccaneers.
In the Eagles’ win over Stetson last week, the 5-foot-9 Chambers collected 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals. In leading the Eagles’ largest margin of victory in a conference game, an 80-56 win over USC Upstate, Chambers garnered 16 points, four assists and three steals.
Chambers knocked down 14 points, grabbed three rebounds, dished out three assists and hit the game-winning three-point play with 37 seconds left to complete a comeback against ETSU Monday.
