Memorial fund to benefit Cape teen accidentally shot

1 min read

A memorial fund for Colton Hutchinson, a 14-year-old who was

accidentally shot and killed in a Cape Coral home Monday afternoon, has

been set up at Fifth Third Bank in order to pay for funeral and

cremation costs.

The Cape Coral National Little League of Jason Verdow Park has set up

the fund to help the family.

Hutchinson’s brother plays Little League with the organization,

according to board member Lydia Mandich.

Hutchinson was skipping school to help the 12-year-old son of David and

Antoinette Casman, 49, with yard work when he was shot in the left

temple with a .38 caliber handgun, according to police. The

12-year-old, who was suspended from school at the time of the incident,

was involved in the apparent accidental shooting at 2422 S.E. 28th

Street, police said.

David Casman, 49, the owner of the gun which police said was not

properly secured in Casman’s home along with a .22 caliber gun, was

charged with culpable negligence.

Hutchinson died of his injuries at the Cape Coral Hospital at 2:20

p.m., reports state.

Those who wish to donate to the fund may do so through the Colton

Hutchinson Memorial Fund, account number 7432438724.

Hutchinson’s family has declined comment on the incident.
