Police investigating domestic violence incident
A Fort Myers woman police say was a victim of domestic violence died this morning at Lee Memorial Hospital.
Dorothy Albanese, 48, of 2214 Franklin Street was taken to the hospital as a trauma alert patient Saturday after EMS responding to a medical call called police.
Witnesses told investigators that Albanese and her live-in boyfriend had ongoing domestic disputes and that she was the victim of domestic violence. Detectives arrested James Smallwood, 49, for felony battery domestic violence.
Albanese subsequently died at the hospital as a result of her injuries. Investigators are awaiting an autopsy to pursue further charges, officials said.
