After the first successful Biergartenfest on the last weekend of February, the German American Social Club of Cape Coral donned the green for St. Patrick’s Day on the second weekend of March and is now going all out to celebrate its German heritage this weekend.

After Hurricane Ian and the cancelation of its 37th Oktoberfest, the club members are all teaming up to get the festivities back into full swing and make up for the lost three months of 2022.

Once again, the members of GASC are working hard to prepare for the third of the four festivals planned this season. The celebrations continue this weekend with a party for the community, this time Bavarian-style. On Saturday and Sunday, March 25 and 26, Southwest Florida will be able to enjoy two pleasant and fun-filled afternoons of German food, beer or wine, music, and above all, what we’ve come to understand as Gemütlichkeit.

Featuring German traditional music and returning to the staples of Bratwurst, Knockwurst, Schnitzel and potato pancakes, there’s plenty to look forward to as the community has the opportunity to sit in the shaded gardens with friends and family. Tickets are $5 and parking is free, as are children ages 12 and under.

And it doesn’t stop there. Marking halfway to this year’s 38th annual Oktoberfest, another festival is planned for April 15 and 16, while the 16th will also mark German Heritage Day, as the club hosts members from other German clubs across the state of Florida.

There’s plenty of good cheer, and beer, to go around at the German American Social Club, which is at 2101 S.W. Pine Island Road, Cape Coral.

As always, the club opens its doors to members and the public for dinner and dancing every Friday night at 5:30.
