Keep Lee County Beautiful Inc. was thrilled to partner with Waste Pro to showcase the winning student artwork from the “Leave The Scene Clean” art contest. The four overall winning illustrations were enlarged and appear on the sides of Lee County Waste Pro trucks.

KLCB and Waste Pro were able to visit each winning school to present the truck to the student winner and their classmates.

The four overall First Place Winners and their schools are:

Grade K-3 – Blaire Metevia – St. Francis Xavier

Grade 4-6 – Julia Humble – North Fort Myers Academy for the Arts

Grade 7-9 – Aaliyah Tourgee – Estero High School

Grade 10-12 – Jamison Albertorio-Acevedo – Cypress Lake High School

The overall winning artwork will also be printed on reusable tote bags available in the fall. The bags will be available for a $5 donation each through participating Lee County Schools, who retain all proceeds collected with the funds being used to support on campus environmental projects.

This year marked the 33rd annual “Leave The Scene Clean” Art Contest and KLCB would like to thank all the teachers, parents and students who participated. The contest drew hundreds of entries from local students, representing public, private, and home schools in Lee County. Students were asked to visualize a correct environmental action and transfer that mental picture into a work of art. Submitted work was judged on artistic execution and originality as well as environmental theme, such as litter prevention, recycling, community cleanup and protecting the environment.

Keep Lee County Beautiful hosted an award reception in April at the Lovers Key State Park Discovery Center and the month-long student exhibition was open in honor of Earth month.

The “Leave The Scene Clean” project is made possible through corporate sponsorships. Sponsors for the 2022 art contest include Lee County Solid Waste, Covanta Energy, Advanced Disposal, Coca-Cola Beverages Florida, Greenfield Marketing & Media, LCEC and Waste Pro. Please call Tisha at 239-334-3488 for more details on how you can become a sponsor.

KLCB is a private non-profit organization dedicated to educational litter prevention programs and responsible solid waste management. Proceeds from the sale of the environmental reusable tote bags benefit KLCB programs and participating schools. For more information about this and other KLCB educational programs visit klcb.org.
